I am watching Steven Spielberg’s AI with motion smoothing switched on. There is no surer way to utterly destroy a film. Always astonished that they have this on in hotels, with absolutely no way of disabling it. Who decided this was good? It’s inexplicable to me.

Super nice gig today. And not badly done for a seven month break with zero rehearsal, zero soundcheck, zero line check. Little more bracing than just diving into stuff you haven’t played for that long in front of 25,000 strangers.

On the drive between the hotel and the concert site, I kept my eyes open for these, and they were on every street. I’d say about ten percent of front doors. I’ve never seen one in Sweden.
I always forget til I visit the UK that British people actually LIKE living in a horrible techno-dystopia.

They should hide half of the votes, like at Eurovision, and then have them all rush in at the end, overturning the result.

Hotel TV cannot turn off motion smoothing.

BTW, hooray for flying in the afternoon. Almost never do it!

yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

No individual polls as evidence of trends, BUT this race is fascinating. Even the supposedly huge stuff creates poll movement that seems a lot smaller than what I remember in previous elections.

Saw quite a few people confidently predicting a bold foot forward by Hunt earlier. Predictions in this instance are, I would suggest, a mug’s game.

I know people tell me I’m being naive whenever I mention this, but it seems wholly bad, and the promises that it’ll be offset by future solutions seem vague.
Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

They’re so THRILLED to be doing it. So very excited to be hurting people and encouraging others to.

I can already feel that the Tory leadership race is gonna give me an ulcer, because of the number of people on the centre and left who have neither read a history book nor the news saying things like “hopefully the Tory party will move to the right”.

no no no no miriam cates LOST! We don't need to hear her on the radio now, you see. Because she didn't get elected! I know it's a reflex, but she's just another citizen with bad fearmongering opinions! This is how democracy works.

OMG, so much this.
for me the Biden conversation is entirely about whether he can win in November. i’m not worried about whether he can actually do the job because i don’t think it’s a real job.

It’s so hilarious that the US political press are sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for Biden to stumble over a word so they can prove their worth when the opponent is LITERALLY DONALD TRUMP.
Look, I was there, he corrected himself quickly and fluidly. He does have a speech impediment: the issue at hand is his mental acuity, and if anything this showed me that he recognized a mistake and fixed it

It’s really reached the point for me where they can kick Biden to the curb or have Biden remain in but whatever the fuck this discourse amounts to is getting increasingly gross and weird and I’m not exactly sure what it’s supposed to be doing for anyone

For those who don't know: this is James Timpson of Timpson key cutters/shoe repairs/dry cleaners. His company employs ex-convicts and even runs work training programmes in prisons. Genuinely inspired choice.
Oh, now that *is* interesting - James Timpson as minister for prisons, parole and probation. Dare we actually hope for something that might reduce recidivism?
