Fun fact: the Rabbis removed the Ten Commandments out of our core liturgy (Shema
&tc) bc the Jewish Christians were SOOPER into it & the Rabbis wanted to be clear that the 10 weren’t superior to the other 603 mitzvot in Torah.
So we’re clear that this 👇 is Christian supremacy.
& a 1A violation.
I always remember Kurt Vonnegut pointing out how telling it was that these kinds of Christians never want to start putting up "Blessed are the peacemakers", "blessed are the meek" etc on everybody's walls.
Also the fun that the Catholic Ten Commandments has a different order than the Protestant Ten Commandments and the court, particularly the RW judges, is predominantly Catholic when Louisiana has approximately 2x Protestants to Catholics.
WHY ARE THESE PEOPLE??
What part or SEPARATION OF RELIGION AND STATE is so impossible to understand??
Never mind, that would require them to THINK and Christianity doesn't encourage that
They've decided that since the phrase "separation of church and state" never appears in the Contitution, it's irrelevant and besides the Founding Fathers were Christian. (not endorsing this)
No, no, it’s really simple: it’s about the original stated intent of the founders. Unless the founders outright state something that the current far right doesn’t want to hear like “well-regulated militia” or “Wall of separation between church and state.” Then it doesn’t count for… reasons.
I'm not gonna say that wouldn't be part of the rules, bc a dirty rusty gun can cause all sorts of things a well regulated militia wouldn't want, but...
I mean they also believe they are currently cashing in an offer for literal immortality, so, like, I dunno, they're not too keen on that "true or not" shit.
Christianity doesn't discourage thinking any more or less than any other religion. Ignorance of the Constitution is not the issue here. The issue is that these people, many of whom are quite intelligent and educated, want to create a Christian theocracy. Assuming they're all stupid is dangerous.
I didn't say they were stupid. Many of them are intelligent and greedy
If you think christianity doesn't discourage thinking, you should probably spend more time studying other religions
They are gearing up for Project 2025. They are planning to instate 'Christian based law' and insist that is still in keeping with 'separation of church and state' because nothing stops them 'basing' the law on Christianity.
They are people for who the laws only apply to people of color and non-Christians.
See Trump trial, etc. etc.
And unless we vote, they will get away with it
It should be not impossible to find a Jewish plaintiff, even in LA, and then they could shop the case around to all the faith-driven law firms standing ready to defend the cake bakers. And publicize *those* results, before ever filing anything. This does go to the 5th Cir, though.
It takes a lot of courage to be a named plaintiff in one of these cases. And maybe good security. And maybe exercise of 2A rights. THAT'S what I meant.
I was surprised to see that Mishkan Tefilah put them back, right before the Shema! One of a few interesting re-instatements in that siddur. (For thise who don’t know, it’s a Reform siddur.)
That IS hilarious. Well, they tried 😂
It interrupts the flow of the liturgy! Everything is building up steadily towards the Shema, then BOOM, Declogue! Sinai! Theophany! It becomes the new emotional climax of the section, & steals all the thunder from the Shema, imho. End rant.
It really, really does 😂 I said “interesting” bc that’s how we politely respond to mishugas in my home state of Minnesota. My copy is covered in annotations on which bits I routinely skipped. It eventually became easier to use a different siddur.
ugh, and it weighs like 30 lbs. have it on your lap for 40 minutes and it will cut your circulation off. please, please use any other prayerbook.
I was at a reform cong when they switched to Mishkan T'filah. relieved to hear others aren't a fan, as I didn't care for that prayerbook.
