The only political meaning I see in the Trump assassination attempt is that American politicians have often legislated for a society in which they never have to live. Where the risk of random gunfire death was deemed an acceptable part of the daily realities of ordinary people, but never for them...

I feel the fact that a 20 year old registered Republican tried to kill Trump will exhaust most attempts at discourse about this fairly fast. Not a lot to support grand narratives of whatever needs to be grand-narratived. It'll settle into a strange episode rather than become a signifier of something
