Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

some people on here really don’t get how intersectionality works and instead think of it like some sort of pokémon type strength/weakness chart and i really wish that we could collectively acknowledge that there can be multiple important things to address happening all at the same time

Pants is shocked, shocked I say, that you may not have hydrated, taken any meds you need, eaten something, and taken a moment to breathe. Look how concerned she is for you. You should do those things so she can relax.

That alone tells you how normalized it's become for people to hot take some Current Drama or Situation they know nothing about. The "silence is complicity" thing can't work for everything because we can't know any and every situation deeply enough to form an opinion. "I'm not obliged to comment."

"I'm not obliged to say anything about any subject at all" has been an extremely freeing mantra. Said this in an interview once when asked about some drama or other: "I don't know enough about that to comment." It COMPLETELY took interviewer by surprise. She didn't know how to respond 🤣

For those of you who don't want to wait until 2025 for new episodes of Black Mirror have you tried, I don't know, watching the news? Wild storytelling going on this season.

every day I feel like I'm losing my mind as people look at a statistically tied race where one guy is a felon with deeply unpopular positions who ALREADY LOST THIS EXACT RACE and are like "he is 100% for sure going to win"

1/3 of wheelchair users in UK are ambulatory, meaning they can stand or walk varying amounts. Also 70-80% of disabilities are variable and/or 'invisible'. My point being you can't tell how much pain/struggle someone is experiencing on sight and social 'policing' of accessibility needs to stop.

See also: "we didn't have all these genders and sexualities when I was a kid!" Yeah, we actually did: we just locked them in asylums (true), tried to electrocute them into straightness (true), or murdered them for living authentically (also true).

To be clear, as our understanding of the body advances, so does our diagnostic criteria. Moreover, as society advances in terms of social justice, so too do the number of people diagnosed. Put simply, medicine is a social and a scientific field and changes in one area mean increases in another.

Anyway, posts like the one that I supplied demonstrate that a great many people have no idea how quickly medical science or diagnostic criteria advance. And this is true within categories: before the early aughts, many folks didn't think women and girls, let alone adults, could HAVE ADHD.

Autism was just being treated as a spectrum disorder and the cohort studies that would result in our contemporary expanded definition of Autism had just gotten underway. Neurologists and psychologists were JUST grappling with the paucity of their diagnostic categories and we taking a second look.

Thirty years ago was 1994. I was nine and had a diagnosis for ADD (what is now ADHD) and a prescription for ritalin. There were three kids in my homeroom with peanut or other food allergies, including my shellfish allergy. The WHO was three years away from its much maligned obesity definition.

Project 2025 includes the call to “outlaw” porn. If you want to understand what they mean by that? Look to what these groups are already fighting “porn,” and their connections to anti-gender movements outside the US. I start that analysis here:
The Real Targets of Project 2025’s War on Pornnewrepublic.com It’s not people watching porn online. It’s drag queens, trans people, LGBTQ library books, and more.

So, I started reading Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar, and like.... I'm bored. It's so boring. Please tell me this highly regarded bit of ground breaking literature will at some point become actually INTERESTING? Otherwise, I'm going back to alternating Bridgerton and Sharpe

There's a progressive journalist whose work I've long supported who basically Q*non'ing themselves in public over "Biden's too old" right now, and it's wild to see happening.
I know that we've departed from reality here, but Biden actually being senile or having Parkinson's requires you to believe the entire White House, along with many other federal agencies and foreign governments are simply covering it up even though it's in their explicit interest NOT to do so.

Dear British media, you need to understand that Farage is not just a pantomime villain who is good for your ratings. He is a very dangerous, man. Stop giving him disproportionate airtime to the Greens.

It’s really annoying me actually how little analysis of the Reform vote there is. Are they young very online voters? Are they old ECJ-hating voters? Are they deprived voters on poverty? Wealthier voters angry about benefits? I want the facts.
What we would have been doing in my childhood which I really urgently need someone to do now is to go through the Reform vote and correlate it with every single possible metric to explain to us what the demographics are that drive a constituency toward Reform.

Weeeelll this is where it probably ALSO gets fun. But we don't really know the rules of the 1922 committee. So god knows that their rules are on being quorate etc. And yes, they may well need to run a 1922 election before they can even change any other rules. bsky.app/profile/phil...
How many of the last 1922 executive have been returned? Is there enough of them to know the rules, change the rules and then run the contest or are they all in the dark now the Graham Brady isn't there?
