I also think too that authority figures have GREATLY underestimated the younger gens and their capabilities up to this point. Because social media allows for competing perspectives to get the same heat as headlines on MSM, authority is losing their shit over losing the rhetoric war, hence violence.
Unfortunately, violence is the second choice for police to roll out. The first being yelling loudly and spraying clouds of noxious chemicals, which is just their version of foreplay.
If this were a movie or TV show, the director would've said to the actor playing the cop, "Tugging on your collar right now is over-the-top. Do something more subtle to show your discomfort."
You'd be surprised, Doctorow's known. And even if he isn't known to these specific people doing this, they learned somethings from someone at some point on a grapevine that originated with Doctorow.
Walkaway came out in 2017, and Occupy was years prior. So it’s possible Doctorow heard it there first. Or it may have been a case of multiple discovery. Whatever it was, probably more people have read that book than heard it at Occupy. I lived across the country and so wasn’t there, for example.
so what's the up/down time we're guessing for:
1) making these records disappear/inaccessible
2) legislation making it a crime for young people to be onthe internet
3) making it a crime to read off complaints in public in real time
4) ?????
