I work in social services and the unhoused folks we serve are basically fucked. treatment centers are full, sober livings are full, shelter beds are unicorns and basically nonexistent, we have no safe havens for folks with mental health conditions (thanks, Reagan!) and now this🥴
It costs SO MUCH MONEY to jail people as opposed to helping them. On the other hand corporations then can't use them for slave labor and bribe politicians while the rest of us pay the difference.
Makes me absolutely sick. I used to teach at a law school and taught the Boise case they overturned. No way I could walk into a classroom with this court on the bench and not get fired for saying "f them all" every session.
This is so fucking grim. This is going to get *tons* of innocent people arrested and incarcerated because prisons (and prison labor) are hugely profitable.
They started enforcing a local version of this by my job and now instead of a handful of homeless people standing on a concrete slab the city calls a park there are 4 officers making $120k a year standing there to make sure the homeless people are across the street and out of “downtown”.
Yep. I live in a blue county here in the Texas and cops round up homeless people and force them into shelters, if not jail or ICE detention. Despite everyone here knowing how cruel it is, how these people have no resources to advocate for themselves so many end up trapped, no one wants to change it
Yup, because there is a reinforced idea that homelessness is a moral failure and at the same time not looking into why people are homeless or any kind of regulation on housing prices or rent because to them nonw of that factors in 🤦🏿♂️
