easy to chalk the stuff in france up to some vague platitude about ~voting~ but it feels to me like more proof that you have to give people something to vote FOR, and that socialism remains better equipped to beat fascism than liberalism does! just one gal’s opinion

France out here proving that actually you can tell the far right to go to hell even when it looks like they’re on track for a big victory are we going to let ourselves be shown up by the French?

It’s amazing the extent to which our billionaire tech bro overlords are just telling us out loud that they are rooting for fascism. Makes me slightly nostalgic for the days when American plutocrats plotted against democracy in secret.

What an incredible life. “The Panthers’ defense was run by the New York Law Commune, a radical legal office of which Mr. Stolar was a member…Mr. Stolar helped defend the Camden 28, a group of mostly Roman Catholic war resisters who in 1971 broke into a draft-board office to destroy records.”
Martin Stolar, Lawyer Who Fought for Social Justice, Dies at 81www.nytimes.com His clients included antiwar protesters and terror suspects. His practice “not only defended needy people, it propelled social movements,” a colleague said.

Organizers got enough signatures to put a measure protecting abortion on the ballot in Arkansas. In *Arkansas*. They had *no national support*. Ignore the pundits melting down over not being treated as Very Special Boys. Dobbs has fundamentally changed elections. Everything they know is wrong.

My 2-year-old has been walking around for the last ten minutes “reading” Frog and Toad stories to our real dog and her stuffed dog, out of a small notebook I gave her to carry around in her tiny backpack (“just like mama”). I am sipping my coffee and reading and it is so peaceful. 10-minute bliss!

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.

tom nichols—of all people???—just made a good point: you have to talk about P2025 in simple real people terms. not policy wonk terms.

My wonderful grad advisor once diagnosed why a lot of my academic writing read as convoluted & dull (he prob didn't use those words): I give too many caveats & scope conditions BEFORE stating the main point; they almost always belong afterward Still today, regularly, I realize this is my problem

Seems like "what parts of Project 2025 do you disagree with?" or "what parts of it are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal?" would be good questions for a reporter to ask the other elderly presidential candidate, but what do I know. on.ft.com/4ePQH0e

yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

Wallace Shawn is such a mensch. For years he came to a socialist conference I helped organize. He’d read one of his essays, or—thrillingly—once held the first table read of a play there. And he participated. You’d be at a talk on the German Revolution or something & he’d be next to you, to learn

Why I Don't Vote (OK, I Do Vote, but I Would Like to Discourage You, NY Times Reader, For Doing So For Some Reason) Via @bubbaprog.ilovecitr.us
Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.
