If I'm considered to be on the good list for James Carville, I need to get myself on a different list.

I found it really interesting that Black Twitter was the only community I saw talking seriously about moving to a different platform as a group.
One more thing. This is why so many Black users have stayed on X despite, long before the discourse noticed his awfulness, having nicknamed Musk “Apartheid Clyde.” People go where their people are, they migrate for community. (I know “community” has been a hard to grasp concept on here.)

So saying that Tressie or Jamelle leaving doesn’t “make or break this place” communicates to me that the person’s definition of success doesn’t consider Black users as a whole. Which, good luck with that given what we know about how things become widely popular 4/?

I'm confident everyone is sending fundraising texts because "it worked for Obama in 2008". I think it actually did work for Obama in 2008, because people actually wanted to hear from Obama in 2008, but I'd love to know how effective it is now.

So often the news from NYC makes me want to send, "sorry about your mayor" cards to friends there.

"Find him something harmless to do." "I know! What about fundraising outread?" It seems like a weird move to me, but I understand nothing about DNC anything.

I don't know who listens to him! If anyone should retire from public life, it's him.

What this clarifies for me is that a lot of election discourse sounds to my ear like the DNC fundraising emails sent by James Carville (from whom I personally do not need to hear again).
2024 has been an unbroken string of events followed by people rushing to declare the presidential race OVER, ALL OVER, followed by nothing fundamentally changing because this election is and will continue to be, a binary choice between "More Trump" and "The alternative to More Trump"

Congratulations! The expression on her face says, "he finally got it!"

Putting The Privatization of Everything on my reading list: thenewpress.com/books/privat...
I only read about half of The Privatization of Everything before I had to stop from sheer rage and frustration but there’s a whole section about how the attempted privatization of the NWS has already led to people dying from tornados as subscription services get weather alert priority.
The Privatization of Everything | The New Pressthenewpress.com A sweeping exposé of the ways in which private interests strip public goods of their power and diminish democracy, the hardcover edition of The Privatization of Everything elicited a wide spectrum of ...

One of my cats sits on the wood floor in the hallway and sighs loudly and pathetically about how a really good human would fix the weather so a cat could sit on the furniture as Bast intended.

I suspect that some of the people who are really into A.I. have only gotten as far as they have because other people have been redoing their work so it is correct.

Finally: Fiji water literally had a recall this fall for bacterial contamination. Bottled water has less oversight than tap in the US, is tested less frequently and if you're buying a plastic bottle your water likely contains microplastics.

The U.S. has followed a conservative ideology about investment in public infrastructure systems for over a hundred years, and as a result regular people bear private costs to have basic essentials like clean, high quality water. We don't have to do this. www.statesman.com/story/news/l...
In east Travis County, community with water quality complaints organizes against rate hikewww.statesman.com Residents of one east Travis County community have some of the highest water rates in region. Now they face a rate hike.

honestly I think Cat Theramin is a genre of music that should be further explored (also a pretty good name for ther frontwoman of an electropunk group)

like does this whole thing have to get reported as a campaign contribution? usually an ad like this going to a huge-ass e-mail list has a pretty big $ value. anybody from the FEC on here? lol
a thing that happens over and over with trumpy small businesses is that they loudly weigh in with the worst instincts imaginable and find themselves six months later believing that they’re being persecuted because their business falls off a cliff, anyway, worst of luck to you, sticker mule
Avatar
Yes, exactly! I think there are lots of reasons not to pretend to be apolitical, but sending email to customers that could reasonably be mistaken for a political campaign message crosses a line that I wasn't even thinking about.
Avatar
It's such a "who even does this?" thing to do that my SWAG is that somewhere behind it is conservative grievance culture.

I have all kinds of mixed feelings about companies trying/pretending to be apolitical, and the only response to the sticker mule thing I've come up with is "I didn't mean like that".

I mean this sort of illustrates the issue at its core though. We never actually reckoned with white supremacy. The whole country just neatly divided itself and then agreed not to fight about it anymore. And we're still doing that pretty much. Except for the people who absolutely do want to fight.
Why is it whenever Black folks, including me, write a post about racism, white folks leap/run/fly into your mentions to say "I cut off my racist family! Congratulate me!" when their job was to stay and confront the bigotry so marginalized people don't have to? You shirked. Why are you proud?
