Nytimes politics desk is just overtly pro Trump at this point. bsky.app/profile/jaco...
A tale of two newspapers, and two very different decisions.

NYT: There are no agreed facts about the Constitution any longer, but our theater criticism is very, very real.
Avatar
Their theatre criticism is also a joke

Everyone can agree on the Games section.😑

They're positioning themselves for when Trump wins, apparently. It's so tiresome that no one has guts. Easy to see how one man can take over a whole country ala Hitler.
Avatar
it's very funny that they think that will save them

How good can that boot leather REALLY taste?

Not so much journalism as journalism cosplay.

I can't even tell who they think their audience is any more. Surely highly educated people see through their nonsense and less educated people don't even read it.
Avatar
No they’re doing great! Worried liberals are loyal readers and reliable sharers

They’d just better hope the puzzle market doesn’t dry up

Honest to god, that's the main and possibly only reason my brother still subscribes to our city newspaper. Sudoku.

It's the Facebook strategy of engagement - anger and worry your base, then they amplify and engage with your content

OK. Newspaper of choice for neurotics?
Avatar
...and a second trump presidency keeps said liberals worried. I mean it makes good business sense for them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Avatar
Agreed. I don't know if it's a way to bump readership by pretending this is a race of equals or if there's something more sinister behind it. Either way, the bloom is off the rose for NY Times. Struck that one off my reading list a few years ago.
Avatar
Best way to get even is to drop subscriptions to NYT.

The truly scary part is when media outlets understand what happens to the ones who don't play ball. They stop trying to oppose the strongman. They start playing along. This may already be starting, but it will deteriorate quickly.
Avatar
At this point? Been this way at least since 2016.

Pathetic that the @nytimes.com TIMES Editor would allow such BULLSHIT remarks while our Democracy is being DISMANTLED BY THE COURT.
Avatar
Proud to have been a Post carrier. Here to say that if the NYT had comics, it would be a different place.
I’ve got to stop obsessing over this but don’t the super genius mandarins (ie morons) at the NYT get what happens to them under authoritarianism? WTF? Maybe they’re hoping for ‘merely’ Orban? Which will still suck for them. But what if the get a Putin? A Xi? And if they get a Hitler/Stalin?
Avatar
the extra cowardly thing is that none of their opinion personalities has publicly said they're going to vote for him. Trying to have the cake and eat it too
Avatar
I won’t even click on the NYT politics articles anymore. I stick to everything else with my subscription. Ugh.
Avatar
neither paper will directly defend democracy agst dictatorship. (they'll operate in the 'darkness' just fine.)
Avatar
All this because Sulzberger's big mad Biden won't do a sitdown interview with his paper
Avatar
This first sentence of the final paragraph of a NYT analysis is simply flabbergasting to me: “The decision doesn’t shield presidents from all consequences. They must still win elections, and Congress can still impeach them.”
Avatar
Avatar
I think NYT sees its mission now as catering to the “elites” - WaPo is hardly better.
Avatar
Avatar
How long will it take for liberal folks to understand the NYT is a blatant right wing journal operation, not even centrist? As if their half decade long anti trans crusade isn't evidence enough.

“At this point,” meaning since AG Sulzberger was given the paper as his birthright.
