I really hate social media more and more lately because I see people genuinely concerned about the prospect of a 2nd Trump presidency and people on TikTok will be like “you’re gonna have to build community to get food, water and shelter over the next 6 months.”

heads i win, tails you lose: trump and RFK jr’s supporters both already know they believe insane conspiracies, so there’s no need to discuss what believing insane conspiracies says about their mental fitness to lead, but biden voters can be persuaded that biden may be unfit, therefore, biden old

2 of the top 3 candidates for the US presidency have shown a repeated willingness to believe any conspiracy dangled in front of them like a set of keys, including wildly anti-american ones, which are straightforward cognitive deficiencies for what we should demand in a president. neither are biden.

I think these things are true: -debate was bad -dems (staffers/electeds) made it much worse by texting journalists and going on background -of course the media is going to cover this! although they’re doing a bad job! -normies were sad post debate and remain sad -I don’t know what to do

This 4th of July, take a little time to think about how the Left can try to reclaim patriotism from conservatives. Seems like the story of a country that cast off a king and fought a civil war to free the slaves is fertile ground given our present moment.

A thing going around is the whole “get ready for 2nd Trump term you need to be a subsistence farmer!” And 1) giving up is such loser behavior and 2) you are not going to be a successful farmer—spend that energy elsewhere, like winning an election.

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

I’m neatural on what the party should do—people needed Biden to show up last week and he failed worse than anyone could’ve imagined. But—it’s still going to be a really hard campaign. Harris still polls behind Trump—just as concerning as Biden still polling behind.

oh, you might say, the president can’t issue corrupt pardons. ah. but john roberts says that not only can he issue corrupt pardons, but if he tells his staff they are corrupt in the course of issuing them, that evidence is inadmissible in the event that you could somehow prosecute the corruption

If the president tells federal workers to illegally imprison me and hands them all presidential pardons, they're all safe from prosecution but in theory maybe a judge can get me out eventually. Somehow. If I can even talk to a lawyer. But if the president instead tells federal workers to kill me...
