I only read about half of The Privatization of Everything before I had to stop from sheer rage and frustration but there’s a whole section about how the attempted privatization of the NWS has already led to people dying from tornados as subscription services get weather alert priority.

It's because they want to privatize weather. They tried doing it under his last administration but many people didn't really notice beyond the weird hurricane drawing he did. It's also why they cut (or at least tried to it's been a minute since I read that stuff) a bunch of NASA Earth's funding too

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel confirms that a Columbus, Ohio, police officer detailed to the RNC shot and killed a homeless Black man (earlier reported to be in his early 20s) more than half a mile from the RNC arena. The man was known by the nickname Jehovah and took care of a pit bull named Isis.

I don’t go there often (bc poor, not bc of their fantastic food), but expecting the guy with 5 Trump flags in his yard, the guy with 30 Trump signs in his lot, and the Q sign guy don’t go there much themselves.

Almost forgot the part where there was a local conspiracy theory when one of the two hotels was being renovated. People believed the largest employer here was buying it, and making housing for immigrants they were hiring; that was combined with the pandemic’s "nobody wants to work anymore" crap.

The Mexican restaurant here (owned/operated by immigrants) has slowly become a popular place, but one of the owners told me they still get people trying to be an ass or being racist. Gas station its attached to is where owner of a local propane company told me we should kill children at the border

And our local paper’s owner/editor dedicated two full pages to election conspiracies after Trump lost, then later ran a front page story claiming a survey from the education district about bullying was turning kids trans and gay.

Going off the Trump supporters in my town—of which 79% voted for Trump in 2020 with an 81% turnout—they are church-going supporters of the high school sports teams, chip in to the "pls help this local family w cancer/funeral costs" bucket at the gas station/dollar general, and believe COVID is fake.

Kinda funny that Kris Kobach has less pull in the Heritage network than JD fucking Vance. Kobach was a Trump crony from day one, helped with plans to kill voting rights, and **campaigned with an actual machine gun** in Kansas. Yet even that didn’t get him the VP gig.
