Come off it. “his ads” … I’m an independent journalist, 100% of my income comes from my newsletter, and I published seven items last week. If my reminding you occasionally that the free content you want costs money to make renders the content worthless to you, boy, I don’t know what to say.
Two years ago, I went out on my own — making $0 off of Law Dork. In two years, I’ve created a workable living, but I’m still not making what I was making at my last job. I do this because I think it’s the right path for me to do the work I think is important. And, yes, it costs money to do that.
I’m sorry to the rest of you, but for someone to send me that on the last day of June — when I haven’t had a full day off in weeks and even traveled for work a week ago — yeah, it’s gonna set me off.
Anyway, hate to let the 1 hater ruin my mood, but, well, I would have if I didn’t say something.
Here’s one of my colorful recent sunsets series for you, for the last day of June, not sure if we’ll get another nice sunset as the storms have moved through overnight:

Yeah fuck that guy. Going after someone for having the temerity to remind us that extensive SCOTUS coverage takes time and money. How dare you be fond of frippery like *checks notes* making a living.
Keep on keepin' on, Chris. You're doing good work, offering in depth coverage faster than nearly anyone else. And the end of the SCOTUS term is always going to be crunch time for you, so after the crush, I hope you can take some mental health maintenance time.
I'm here to say thank you. I'm not in a position for paid subscriptions to everyone I follow AND I appreciate and value what you do post free of charge. Thank you for what you're doing, and I hope that someday really soon you're making (a lot) more than you did at your old job!
Oh jeez, cry some more... Anyway, I took a better look at your feed and there is some good stuff, so I withdraw my complaint. And I see somebody subscribed to your Substack thanks to me, so frankly, you owe me a commission.
Don’t let the haters get you down. You’re doing insanely valuable work, and deserve to be compensated for it.
You’re a prized member of my timeline (especially on Monday!!!). You’re very much appreciated, even if social media makes it easier to see the hate than the love
Not that it’s the point of this, but that’s dude’s feed is ENTIRELY misogyny from the political left. Crappy person saying crappy things who bemoans mainstream media but won’t support independent journalists
I click through every now and then thinking "why don't I already subscribe?" but then I remember it's because I have a no-exceptions rule about Substack. Is there some other way I can support you?
