A reminder of how Trump responded when a supporter broke into Nancy Pelosi's home and brutally attacked her husband with a hammer:

Opposition to authoritarianism is *not* “violent rhetoric.” Authoritarianism implies violence: uses of state violence against the people and political opponents without due process. A passionate defense of democracy is the *opposite* of violent political rhetoric.

Their inability to focus on the stakes of this election is just dumbfounding
An aspiring dictator & convicted felon w history of treason may win the presidency. Profoundly corrupt SCOTUS justices undermined the constitution and gave him immunity from prosecution for past & future crimes. This is all political journalists should be writing about 24/7. We’re at the precipice.

“I love America like Anthony Bourdain or Woody Guthrie did” is the phrasing I’ve settled on
Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

Seriously considering. I keep it because I tend to need to access their health care reporting periodically for teaching and having my own subscription is more reliable than relying on CUNY but if there was a time it’s now

Despite the abolition of #slavery, laws from that era persist in the US legal system – and courts are still citing precedents involving those laws. A law professor calls for these historical roots to be acknowledged in citations to confront and understand the legacy #BlackSky
US laws created during slavery are still on the books. A legal scholar wants to at least acknowledge that history in legal citationstheconversation.com Since 2020, a team of legal researchers has collected more than 12,000 cases involving enslaved people and more than 40,000 cases that cite those cases.
