Man i have been saying for a minute that voters everywhere are rejecting fascist shit and it’s only the media that makes us think otherwise, but it’s nice to see that in play right now

Watching reaction videos of French fascists losing the election is so energizing. Need that shit in my country in November.

A get out the vote ad that just says “do you really want the FRENCH to beat us?”

The thing about “European voters reject facism” applying to us is that Trump does indeed seem to have a pretty hard cap on his vote % in the mid 40s. You just gotta motivate everybody else to get out and vote against him!

like, i’m voting for biden for survival, but i will not be screaming at people online for being disgusted about genocide. that’s not a great norm to be setting btw

The US system has parties negotiate internally before the election, others have parties negotiate after the election. The US system passes the compromise to the voter, but neither case really gives you control of that process.

“you’ll get a seat at the table but you’ll never get to run it” is a helluva message

The backlash from base voters who very explicitly demanded a Black woman as VP (and on the Court) as our “seat at the table” in exchange for our electoral organizing…whew, you are not prepared. But almost all of the white alternatives are, and it’s why they keep saying no.
by choosing anyone other than harris to replace biden should he decide to step aside, the party would be revealing they very cynically chose her as veep for optics without believing she could actually be president.
Avatar
well, for starters, the people pushing the loudest for Dems to pick someone other than Biden or Harris are the people who want Dems to lose
Avatar
I am losing my mind "stick with Biden or go with Harris" is the open question, anything else is absolute guaranteed disaster what do any of these people think they're doing
Avatar
I dunno, this seems like it is a relevant story to pursue and surface if we are REALLY debating presidential fitness through anonymously sourced news stories, only this isn’t anonymous. There’s a reason this has been ignored by the Post/NYT/etc. for the last four days and it’s isn’t civic virtue.

6/ Maybe Biden needs to go; maybe not. But of this I'm certain: the US elite political media needs to be radically transformed, with most of its current practitioners consigned to the Albany beat.* *Yes, I am that mean. /fin

5/ All of which is to say that a 21st c. national campaign in the US is an enormous, complex organization that doesn't appear whole in weeks. Pundits seem to have stopped paying attention to the actual structure of US politics after watching Mr. Smith Goes to Washington...
Avatar
4/ Then there's the intellectual infrastructure of a national campaign: the policy shop, the informal college of expert advisors, the candidate themself, trained up on a host of issues that, say, a midwestern governor doesn't usually deal with, and so on...
Avatar
3/ Related: campaign organization. Biden/Harris has hundreds of offices open. Staff. Digital boiler rooms, etc. A non-Harris D doesn't just inherit that either. Not to mention to top organization...
Avatar
2/ One obvious one, going unmentioned (AFAIK) in every pundit thumbsucker about the mythical perfect candidate: ballot access. The landscape is more than complicated enough to admit unlimited R ratfucking. Another: campaign funds. Biden/Harris money doesn't readily flow to [D] candidate...

Read Ezra Klein's latest on a "mini-primary" to replace Biden. It's not as terrible as many of his colleagues' takes, but 2 notes: 1: He takes as given that Biden is incapacitated. Maybe so; but Klein's MD is not in evidence. 2: It ignores the huge practical obstacles to anyone but Harris...1/

I really wish the left (and I'm a leftist) would really fucking understand that you need to actually build shit from the ground up you need to put in the work. You can't expect shit to just happen. Also you can't expect that a 3rd party Pres would win (or would have meaningful power if they did)

So voting is better than *not* voting when it comes to getting what you want? Huh.
