As a young adult, “ridiculous ways to injure yourself” typically involve crazy stunts or alcohol, or both. As a (cough) slightly older adult, ridiculous starts to mean getting out of bed slightly awkwardly, or opening a packet of chips the wrong way. I’m not a fan of this transition!

My husband and I spend a lovely Christmas at home this year watching old mysteries, BBQ'ing steak, and reading. I even managed to finish my very first steeked cardigan (that's where you knit it in one piece and then cut it open in the front). Hermitting and avoiding covid is delightfully relaxing.

The interregnum period also contains my birthday and those of my older brother and one of our cousins. Apparently, no one told the women in my family that this time is supposed to be a lull.

We have now entered the weird interregnum between Christmas and New Year. Time no longer has meaning. Calories don’t count. None of the old laws apply.
