Yeah - I don't know what to make of it. It doesn't seem like the Post would fabricate it, or that someone would just make it up and tell them with the credibility to get it published?
I mean.
But what I feel we're getting away from is that the paper just went with it. Maybe I'm crazy, but I feel like they should verify what they print? And these are Politico reporters. Not exactly in the tank for Biden.
WaPo confused Mark Takano with Ted Lieu. Oy.
"The House Democrats who said Biden should drop out of the race were Adam Smith of Washington, Jerry Nadler of New York, Mark Takano of California and Joe Morelle of New York."

I'd like to believe the WaPo wouldn't straight up lie, but it's not like their changing of the guard at the Editor level and recent coverage of Biden gives me much confidence.
I believe it was a phone call rather than a video call, so a reporter may have simply misidentified a voice (though I agree that they should have verified his identity before posting)
Yeah, I'm a reporter and I would never write something I didn't confirm. Seems wild. And considering I cover shit that is not nearly as important as this, it's even more troubling.
Forever ago boss told me 'triple check anything nice you write about someone and do that ten times for any criticism'
plot twist, somebody's planning to knife the 'softs' as soon as Biden's re-elected and wanted to make sure they were all on the record. (maybe. who even knows.)
I guess we'll never know, because other outlets are still running on it...
Media is broken.
They copy paste from each other and retractions like these are always tiny or nonexistent or they don't matter, because no one reads them and the "damage" of the falsehood has been done.
I
Their politics coverage has been gossipy trash for multiple years now, basically starting when Buzbee was hired. It was a key reason I cancelled my subscription a couple years ago.
I'm not sure about that... the original story cited 5 members and the revised story cites 4. That seems like a full removal of Lieu, not a replacement?

Points to @washingtonpost.com for issuing a Correction, I guess? 🙄 Maybe the “Biden-Must-Go” feeding frenzy at WaPo (and tangentially at the NYT) should pump the brakes a bit 😬
I’m becoming more and more convinced that most of the political journo class wants Biden gone and they’re gonna try to make it happen any way they can, including sloppy reporting that can’t be put back into the bottle or just outright fabrication. I’m extremely frustrated.
The real crafty version would be if Biden's supporters on the call knew he didn't say anything, then leaked it to try to get him to go on the record supporting Biden?
