Folks, in the first round of these French elections, the far-right won the most seats outright (no need for 2nd round), had the largest voter share of any one party (over 9 million votes), and had it been a single round election, they would have taken 51% of the seats in parliament (297 of 577).

No, he really didn’t. It’s actually quite a rebuke to Macron. The largest party block is not his, he’s unlikely to be able to do much of what he planned, and its still a truly historic gain for the far right. He will not be happy tonight. Releived, yes, but it did not go well for him at at all.

Folks, don’t go sighing with relief and thinking it’s all over. The far right in France are NOT defeated. They have a big chunk of the assembly, the people who vote for them have had a good day. No battle has been won, its just one skirmish, like ANY election in ANY country.

As the daughter of a Black Vietnam vet who suffered life long pain from a service related injury but was constantly turned away from care by the VA I can’t even bring myself to read this. My father eventually died of a treatable condition at 62 b/c he was sent home to take ibuprofen by a VA doc.

A 2017 internal Veterans Affairs report shows Black veterans were more often denied benefits for PTSD than their white counterparts. The analysis crunched claims data from fiscal year 2011 through 2016. And disparate treatment started after WWI when it was still called shell shock. It continues.
