Project 2025 and “Make America Great Again” is a yearning for an older time. It’s a selfish, backwards-looking, undo-progress movement equating “the good ol’ days” and “like it used to be”, no matter how awful, with a time when white Americans felt free from respecting anyone else around them.

I am no expert on how politics should be done, but it seems to me to be an own goal for senior Democratic Party peeps to be calling for Biden to step aside when he’s still the one leading the polls and potentially the best place candidate to beat Trump. I personally don’t need Biden to be… 1/2

…the candidate, I’ll vote for a sack of cats if it has the best chance of beating Trump, but if you want people to turn out in huge numbers, you have to make them care. They need to get riled up and ready to “do battle” at the ballot box. This is seems to me be the wrong way to do that. 2/2

I think the whole idea of computers that can be people, that can think and act and be friends with you like a person can, isn’t possible based on current or foreseeable technology. It might not ever be possible. I’d argue that sentient AI is as much a fantasy creature as elves are. Which is fine!

When (god willing) the chatbot bubble bursts, I wonder how that’s going to affect how we portray AI in science fiction.

Nailed it. “It’s all part of God‘s plan” is a way for the right to ignore the fact the shooter came from their own ranks, it’s a way of removing the shooter from the situation and not having to contemplate the circumstances that lead him to get up on that roof.

Wheelchair users are not exclusively paralyzed. There isn’t reliable data for it, but many, many of us are ambulatory (can walk sometimes, either for short periods or on good days). You probably shouldn’t be shocked that the head of a union, a position famous for corruption, is talking at the RNC. You really shouldn’t be surprised when it’s the head of the Teamsters, a union notorious for their ties to organized crime.

omg this is horrific. i don't understand how one can aspire to leadership and say things like "have a wet towel to cool off." it's thoroughly unprofessional, not to mention insensitive to the point of deadly. i do think we need to talk about how our private solutions can never just be public ones.

Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.
