A thing that is useful to remember about the GOP is that for decades the die-hards in the anti-abortion movement complained bitterly that political conservatives didn’t care enough about ending abortion. No one believes that anymore; the GOP can remove it from the platform, because it’s redundant.

Gotta admit, having been raised and come of age in the authoritatian religious right, it is taking an enormous amount of active work not to slide under the waves of despair these days.

I grew up politically active in the pro-life movement and the broader religious culture war. There existence of a currently-publicly-proposed “moderate option” has never, ever indicated a softening of the underlying goal of total bans.
If you hear next week that the RNC has "moderated" on abortion by dropping a 20-week-ban from the platform or somesuch, here's me telling you now that it doesn't mean anything close to "moderation" when it's these guys running the show.
Listen Closely to the Men Crafting the GOP’s Anti-Abortion Policynewrepublic.com The main dispute within Trump’s Republican Party is not about how severely to punish women for having abortions, but merely how to “frame the argument.”

“Perhaps this is how racism feels no matter the context—randomly the rules everyone else gets to play by no longer apply to you, and to call this out by calling out “I swear to God!” is to be called insane, crass, crazy. Bad sportsmanship.” — Claudia Rankine, Citizen: An American Lyric

The strange and difficult thing about the Current State Of Affairs in the US is watching lots of people come to grips with what it’s like to live under authoritarian ideology.

Not many people know that Mr. Beast’s parents, Donna and Robert Beast, changed their surname to better fit in when they emigrated. “Housenbold” was popular at the time thanks to the long-running CBS radio comedy, “Hosting the Housenbolds,” but ironically it’s now much less memorable.

My most unpopular opinion: Jack isn't wrong, Jack is never the problem and bluntly neither is Elon It's the folks who enable them and the convenient triangulation opportunity they give everyone So it's easy to center them and then magnify them rather than ... WORK
