Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out

My Long Island swing district (that went Santos —> Suozzi) has a lot of these. They are fine w/gay (probably less so w/trans), pro-choice, pro-limitations on guns. They crave lower taxes, suspicious that gov’t programs are being abused, wildly pro-cop, fearful of crime/immigrants, pro-Israel. (1/2)

I have personally encountered people who voted for Trump in 2016 and then got too grossed out to do it again in 2020. They really do exist.

I like when I see some of you posting the same post I liked here over on Twitter and it’s doing numbers. I feel like a fan of a band back when they were just playing the clubs, before the big time.

I stutter. I’m also a pretty good extemporaneous speaker. I’ve been rattled to the point of panic when things start going off the rails. It is IMO likely that a big chunk of Biden’s debate struggles were downstream of a rocky start and attempts to recover through his mouth throwing 404s

*deep existential sigh* Did you know that the one time I was summoned to meet with a dean and a chair over the content of my syllabus it was for teaching the history of legal challenges to affirmative action and diversity in admissions. The class was called Diversity in Education.

this entire crusade against diversity in hiring and admissions is based on the supposition that all white men are necessarily more qualified than any nonwhite person or woman who might be considered for the job. like, this lawsuit more or less states that outright.
