I have had a rotten couple of days for reasons not worth going into, but @archangelbeth.bsky.social has absolutely won the "Turn That Day Around" award by finding a recording of a bunch of songs I haven't heard since the cassette deck in my car died five cars ago. (Y2K or so.) So grateful!

🥹😲🤯 Oh wow, THANK YOU. I have been stuck with only what's in my memory for decades. Bless you!

We are talking 1993-1994 here. :-} It was given to me on a cassette, labeled, "L. A. Filkharmonic - In Space No One Can Hear You Sing" I've never found it again, and I can write most of it from memory, but the last two verses are missing a line or two in my head.

I wish I could do that one, but I heard a filk of it first and "the Last of Grand Moff Tarkin's Crew" has basically erased my ability to learn the real lyrics. Oops. :-}

I don't know why I keep going back to the website, going against hope that they're going to put my favorite chai blend back. They've destroyed all the other blends I like but one, so it seems unlikely. And yet I still check. Nope.

I'm just gonna be over here being mad that happiness is a privilege and not a right, what jerk decided they could only be happy if other people were unhappy and then went and wrote it into the laws in subtext.

I find this all interesting because these two families basically went in hard for a particular form of chemical defense against predation, and then humans were like "yes good get more angry it makes you more delicious. Try to kill me like one of your primordial hamsters."

I'm taking a bit of a vacation from Bluesky for a bit, given that the news is doing Bad Things (tm) to my brain. I'll be checking mutuals occasionally, but I think a short detox is in order if I want to be a functional human being for the next few months. :-p

5) (If it's a dubiously skilled GM) Blinks at you, goes, "Uhhh, ok, you can do that..." and you know that you are about to go off the rails and into "here there be dragons" territory.

Oh no. Yeah, I get the "want to strangle everyone involved" and also "that would be counterproductive." Ranting about it at least lets some of the steam go out. I'm here for rants even if your daughter is not onboard right now.

I really cannot overstate how absolutely exhausting and soul-destroying the experience of having a large account can be. It's also somehow still rewarding, or we wouldn't do it. But especially if you're a woman or a person of color or a female POC, that balance is really, really close most days.

D&Tea's "Arborian Thicket" which is cedar tips, green tea (probably sencha), ginger, almonds, and chocolate. I was not fond of it hot, but over ice it is divine, and I shall have to mix it up myself I think, as they said after the Kickstarter that it was too expensive to keep producing.

Skratch isn't on Bluesky yet, which is a shame because they're the reason I do not currently have a dehydration headache after an hour of absolutely necessary but too fucking hot and sticky yardwork. If you can't get to the shed because of garden overgrowth, but you need your bike, get Skratch.

So many theses came to the helpdesk at college, trapped in one of those things forever. So many. "Where's your backup disk?" "My...what?" "Oh dear."

Nope, I'm not medicating her, so I suppose she's just mellowing.

It is still disgustingly hot and humid here, but the person for whom I have been making the trips graced me with a *purr* this evening. She usually runs away from me! Have they been giving her antianxiety meds? I'll ask when her humans are back.
There is no love like a friend who walks over to feed someone else's cat when the temperature and the humidity are both the same number that starts with '8'. (Fahrenheit.) Ick. The cat is grateful, which I appreciate. She even let me pet her, which is unusual for her.

Just a set of "low warning" clearly labeled indicators would help immensely!

Peter has been getting increasingly something - the closest word I'm coming up with is "bitter" but I'm precaffeinated - and I unfollowed him because what he was posting didn't help. And yes, sometimes posting and talking can help. Sometimes action is required, but you have to plan too...

And this would be why what I do is bring my kid the article and say, "What makes sense, what's egregiously wrong, and what is not applicable?" Thus far, we seem to be doing ok.
I came to my 14 year old with a concern about social media. He literally took his glasses off, rubbed his temples, and asked: “what have the moms on the internet said now?” 😯🫤😆

If you have ever been able to go to the library and pick up the complete trilogy or duology or series of a book, spare a moment to thank everyone who read the first book, but the cliffhanger ending, and then sat "patiently" through the year-long wait that followed. 1/

Because if the first book doesn't sell, the rest doesn't get published. (Glares in frustration at Orbit. @djangowexler.bsky.social , you are a Dark Lord.)

Most *white* Americans. There is no country on earth that imprisons more of its population than the US. Prisoners disproportionately Black. The US leads the world in child executions. Not a typo. Disproportionately Black. Life expectancy for US Black folk lower than for Uighur Chinese. Not a typo
Pretty much. What it mostly boils down to is that most Americans really don’t have the faintest idea what living under modern authoritarian regimes actually looks like, and how it’s often at the same time way more boring and way more scary than they’d imagined.
