Flax fibre is chopped up into short lengths so that it can be spun on the ubiquitous cotton-spinning machinery rather than at a specialist flax mill. The resulting textile is structurally weak and shatters easily, but it's cheaper to make and you can legally put "💯 Pure Linen" on the label.

We had some friends visiting and took them to this farm. The younger daughter asked if it was OK to pet the pigs. I said sure, that's why I brought hand sanitiser, and her dad (who grew up on a farm) advised her to avoid the head end.

I really hope you've never been sexually assaulted, but it can cause a sense of disassociation, like you're either outside your body or a very long way down inside it, just watching what's happening and unable to do anything about it. 2016-20 reminded me of how that feels.
