I am not kidding when I say that Romancing the Vote has out-organized and done more to materially improve conditions in the southeastern US than any explicitly leftist org. Romancelandia ain't here to fuck around.
Bree says: we also have some very high value items where another will be offered to the runner-ups if they match the highest bid. Last year we pulled in $20k on that alone. This year we're MUCH more organized about it. 💗

Ok, getting desperate! Looking for Covid shots in RI or eastern MA. The CDC website is wrong (we tried and nobody they say has it actually does). We are uninsured, so need a low-cost place and my kid is 4. Pls direct links only! Currently crying in a Walmart parking lot in fucking Cranston.

Psst. If you did anything for Pride (or whatever) last weekend that included being around a crowd, please test for COVID!

Of course my mom called because she got spam saying my house was for sale and she wanted to know if it was true. Which maybe she did or didn't and was just hunting for info. Whatever I said my house isn't for sale and my cancer is an adventure and that is that. Cause boundaries!

Woohoo! Breast MRI is done. Resting in a Superman pose on my sternum SUCKS. But I will say Eurythmics is an excellent choice to go with the beat of the machine.

Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here. Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.
(1852) Frederick Douglass, "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth Of July" •www.blackpast.org On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass was invited to address the citizens of his hometown, Rochester, New York. Whatever the expectations of his audience on that 76th anniversary of the signing of the D...

[nutrition science] a thing I have been thinking about a lot: healing injuries (and connective tissue) takes more energy than "baseline" healing injuries also makes it harder to fight or flight so how do our bodies decide it's "safe" to repair an injury? #NEISvoid

I just counted and I have over 10 pairs nail clippers in my house, 10 pairs of scissors, and 5 box cutters. Plus however many more are currently hiding in doom boxes. If you use that tool in multiple rooms often, just get another to live in that room. AND get/make it a home.
Adam Savage's book "Every Tool a Hammer" explicitly gives you permission to get a second x-acto knife and a second pair of pliers and leave a set at each spot you need them rather than wander around looking for where you last left The Tool and omg it is LIBERATING.

This is tangential, but over at Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul there is an area of civil war veterans. It’s neat. Pretty small though. Also a giant firefighter statue on the SE side of the cemetery. This thread is also very informative/interesting.
2nd July 1863. Battle of Gettysburg. For perhaps the only time in the entire war the Confederates seem to be winning. Dan Sickles, commander III Corps, is ordered hold on Cemetery Ridge. For reasons unknown he advances. Broken, his men begin to flee. This is the moment on which the war depends /1

A good thread on why Minnesota refuses to return the Confederate flag we won in the Civil War.
Colvill has 260 men. Hancock more than any other general gets the brutal role soldiers have to play in battle. Tomorrow he will face down Pickett’s charge, sitting high on his horse. “There are times when a Corps commander’s life does not count” Today, he needs the First Minnesota to die. /7

I just realized that after two years of waiting, my #KidLit book comes out NEXT MONTH. This Land is my answer to "This Land Is Our Land," a way for you to talk to kids you love about land theft and the displacement of Indigenous people from the lands we've called home since time immemorial.

I'm so going to have to write a blog post about eating and hydrating during chemo. Yes, it will be more or less "Eat more protein!!" And "Any liquid you can keep down is good! Popsicles and fruit count as liquids!" As well as, "Health and keeping your current size" cause yeah.
My bloodwork looks even better than Monday. I got compliments on my albumin numbers cause it has been rock solid this entire time. Apparently that means my nutrition has been excellent. I've also been keeping my weight the exact same. So go me at this eating for chemo treatment.

*lowers voice* As others have pointed out, you cannot necessarily even emigrate to Canada, your neighbour, if you are disabled or have evidence of 'undue' healthcare spending, for example (real life example unfortunately) receiving treatment in the adult psychiatric care system... involuntarily. 🙃
There is an American exceptionalism embedded in the idea that y'all think you can just pick up and leave and go wherever you want. It's cute you think you'd be welcomed. Americans aren't exactly popular in the world.
