Funny what happens when a reporter actually decides to talk to rank and file Democratic voters instead of panicked backbenchers or smug elite donors.
Avatar
They forget most vote for the Democratic Party in spite of the pundits and elites not because of them.

I mean, delegates chosen by the Biden campaign are not "rank and file Democratic voters," but I agree the coverage has been wholly one-sided.
Avatar
A big predicate of this coverage we’ve been seeing is that Dems would be hunky dory with either a) dumping Biden for Harris or b) having an open convention. All of it conspicuously doesn’t talk to the ppl who would be operative in that. This article specifically does. These ppl aren’t on board.
Avatar
Nearly every serious person I’ve seen has approached it from a position of: “It must be Joe Biden’s decision”
Avatar
I have seen very few serious people arguing that Biden should be deposed at the convention, by a delegate vote. There’s a zero percent chance that would happen, and anyone suggesting that as a possible course of action is not credible
Avatar
Considering the number of times Biden has clearly said "no I'm not dropping out," persisting with this is not meaningfully different from suggesting that as a course of action
Avatar
Joe Biden can’t say anything other than “I’m not dropping out, end of story”, until he decides to drop out. If Joe Biden ever says “I’m thinking about it”, then it’s over. There’s a difference in trying to convince Joe Biden to drop out even after he says no, and challenging him at the convention

You know what made me real fucking sad? Seeing even Jon Stewart jump on this dump Biden train.
Avatar
I was out on Stewart when his first show back on the Daily Show was "Well, both these people are old white men. The election is going to suck." Bullshit false equivalency.
Avatar
I ain't throwing out all the times I thought he and his writers were on that good stuff! It's just sad to disagree with him here. Especially when he was like France can do two elections in a couple weeks but we can't? Yeah due. Sorry. We a lot bigger and a lot more fucked up.
Avatar
He's right on a lot of stuff and centering the political absurdity back when did a lot to get me politically active. But there is a streak of him standing athwart voting and proclaiming "a pox on both your houses" especially when the GOP has gotten markedly worse
Avatar
So say that? They're not rank and file. Which is a pretty useless word itself.
Avatar
Generally these delegates are elected by local party organizations and the state party, not by a campaign per se. But yes, these should be expected to represent the party faithful. But also they’re the folks running GOTV and canvassing operations in this swing state. And they want Biden!

The chunk of plywood wisely decided to save its run for the 2028 cycle.

We haven't seen Shapiro or Whittmer debate Plywood yet.

TBF, these are delegates chosen specifically for their loyalty. But that’s why open convention talk is insane.
Avatar
However we want to frame these peoples roles, they are the ones that any of these sorts of replacement/open convention plans have to run through and this a clear indication that there’s no real appetite for it
Avatar
The idea they'd readily skip over Biden AND Harris for a governor who's never set foot in their state, is insane.
Avatar
It would be a royal rumble, a blood bath. Imagine rhetorical Kyle Rittenhouses all around Kenosha.

Do we really have to do a side-by-side Sideshow Bob rake stepping analysis for each hair brained new ticket alternative pipedream?

After months and years of "do something," and now a very simple path remains if we only have the courage to complete the course. Ezra is a special boy, but that's why we have systems.
Avatar
Where did they get the idea that we would jump ship?
Avatar
Biden delegates will obviously know how weak he is and replace him with a candidate that will save Americans from themselves.
Avatar
Convention delegates aren’t rank-and-file voters, lol.
Avatar
It's what I would say too in that position. Coming out against Biden would have zero upside. It doesn't mean they don't privately prefer another option
Avatar
These are people who knocked on doors for Biden-Harris in 2020 & 2024. A lot of them knocked on doors for Obama-Biden in 2008 & 2012.
Avatar
I "privately" prefer many options. That doesn't mean I let my secret fantasies get in the way of rational decision-making. Speculating what people prefer is pointless.

Delegates are good Democrats who have been chosen to vote for the nominee. I will too, even for Plywood. But there's consistent polling and focus groups of voters - D, I, and R - who've said for two years they think Joe f'in Biden is too old. Shouting on Morning Joe isn't prosecuting the case.
Avatar
Until someone makes some moves about instituting a mandatory retirement amendment to the Constitution, it's all talk.
Avatar
wait, professional campaign staff chose delegates who are absolutely loyal to what the candidate wants them to do. seems weird.
Avatar
Not even rank and file: these are terminally political freaks being interviewed, who showed up on a perfectly good Saturday morning to try to get elected as delegates. The top 1% of politically engaged psychopaths.

Team chunk of plywood ✋

Pledged Biden delegates are not exactly "rank and file voters" and the quotes from the delegates sure seem like they for anyone other than Trump. Not Biden or bust.

It's like they've never heard the term "Yellow Dog Democrat"
