BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

It's at times like these I realise how little I understand the French electoral process, so I'm just going to assume the phone votes have been revealed.

We need more, but credit where due: both The Nation (June 2024 issue) and Boston Review have run a breakdown of the Project 2025 “Mandate for Leadership” document. Media Matters, too. Lots of good work going on digesting this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins... www.mediamatters.org/project-2025
Where are the columnists who are experts in specific fields, breaking down what the Heritage Foundation + Trump want to do to each individual federal agency? E.g. I read the section dedicated to our intelligence agencies, and had to stop, since I was starting to feel a little nauseous.

Listening to James Timpson's interview, it is clear that he would like to see a sea-change in sentencing policy. That will not be his remit, but if the new PM supports such a change, I think it would have very significant ramifications for our political culture. Let me explain. /1

It took me about 20 minutes to do this, including the screed I wrote which I then had to cut down because they had a character limit. Apparently you're only allowed to have a certain amount of opinion on the topic of climate change.
The Irish government is asking people to take a survey on climate change action. If you live in Ireland, this affects you. Please take the survey. It's pretty detailed, but it'll be time well spent. www.gov.ie/en/consultat... #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis

something that i saw in regard to the latest abusive celebrity man that has been bothering me a lot is someone asserting that because the man in question had written sexual abuse into his work, that should’ve been a red flag to let us know that he was a sexual abuser. no. that is not how that works.

I really would like UK political media to consider the possibility that voters in places like Oxon didn't 'reject the Tories', but made a positive choice to elect Lib Dems now we see our local and county councils in coalition are doing useful things after decades of self-serving, arrogant Tory rule.

I like that Rishi Sunak said "sorry" and praised Keir Starmer, and that Starmer praised Sunak and noted him being the first British Asian PM. Even if neither of them meant a word of it (I don't assert that is true, but even if) it was a very respectful, orderly transition of power.
