Shelley Duvall had the kind of career you can't quantify in a single message. Her portrayals were human, nuanced, and her legacy will on film will never be forgotten. Hers is a loss we won't get over easily.

Caden Mark Gardner and I wrote about many of the trans filmmakers working right now and the potential birth of a "New Trans Cinema." Consider this a primer for our book Corpses, Fools and Monsters. www.wussymag.com/all/2024/7/1...

Comics of the mid-14th century! Here's a straightened-out, lighter version if you wanna check out more details... ( h/t @lizzzs.bsky.social ) I hope most now find it obvious that this is the same art form as the latest X-Men—not an easy sell when I wrote Understanding Comics in 1993.

Maxxxine was a little on the nose wit its messaging, but with so much care and artistry that I don't really care. So, an A24 film. A great follow up to the first two, and probably the best of the bunch.

I Saw the Tv Glow was a fascinating movie. It goes so far into its specific niches without full explanation that it's for a select audience, but that group will find a stirring, intelligent look at feeling nostalgia. Its discussion of the trans experience was both subtle and all over the film.

I’m so grateful for the departed for giving Boston meatheads a better movie than the boondock saints to make their girlfriends watch. Marty did New England a huge service w that one

Concord California was going to kill a 100% affordable housing project because they wanted higher income residents in the city. After my organization and others pointed out that doing so would be illegal, the city changed course and unanimously approved the project.

Dune has themes on the cynicism of political power, but one fact gets lost: the plot and motivations of the characters comes from the fact that Duke Leto Atreides was a good dude. He cared for his family and his staff, and that resonated through the rest of the story, inspiring enemies and friends.

This is what we've all been asking for for years. Stop bloating the budgets and concepts, forcing the abuse of your workers to play out over interminable years. Give us something focused and purposeful and we'll all be happier.

oh no, Furiosa didn't make the warner bros CEOs happy on opening weekend!! this will surely break the heart of George Miller, the 79-year-old director of the 45-year-old five-movie saga that has been his life's work to create without compromise

I just watched the 1st cinematic masterpiece of 2024, Hundreds of Beavers, chronicling the life of American trapper Jean Kayak, from visionary director Mike Chetnik. Available for rent, but you can watch it free w/ a week trial of indie film channel Fandor. PS Eat your heart out, The Revenant. 🦫🦫🦫

Hundreds of Beavers is the movie of the year. Everyone else can stop trying. It's refreshing beyond description and managed to hand Hollywood it's ass on a budget of $150,000.

Hey it's me, Sonic the Hedgehog! Billionaires are a symptom of a sick society, and shouldn't exist! It's unconscionable that the richest Americans can pay fleets of accountants and lawyers to evade taxes while making huge political contributions to protect their interests as millions go hungry!

Watching a really low budget indie film released on YouTube called, From Other Worlds, and it’s impressively very well made all around. The writer/director has a bright future in the business. They did it just like Spielberg said it could be done if you really want it bad enough. Props👊🏼
