Shitty people, shitty culture, shitty values.
NEW: The Texas Supreme Court temporarily STAYS the district court's order permitting Kate Cox to get an abortion while it reviews AG Ken Paxton's petition for mandamus and motion for temporarily relief. Background here: www.texastribune.org/2023/12/07/t...

I wanna know how much public money is being spent in the AG's vendetta against a single woman seeking medical treatment

Maybe @andreagrimes.bsky.social knows how much public money is being spent in the Texas AG's vendetta, or knows someone who could find out.

I'm so livid that I want to describe, in painful detail, just what a baby with trisomy 18 has to look forward to, just so everyone can be as angry as I am right now. But that would be cruel. And I'm just not that mean. I hope there is a special place in hell for Paxton, specifically for him.

I remember from medical school, and it’s brief and awful. One of the many reasons that I knew I couldn’t emotionally handle Obs/Gyn or paediatrics as career choices.
Avatar
I took care of an infant when I was in nursing school. Brief and awful is right. I, too, could not emotionally handle obs/gyn or pediatrics, either. I work with Elders. I'm happy this way.

Big time. Fuck all of them.

The national and Texas GOP are managing to do what I thought I’d see when hell froze over: turning my erstwhile Catholic antiabortion conservative husband into a self-described libtard.

Waiting for the reveal of "We'll review it in 10 months"

Love the Friday night drop, too

Y’all Qaeda isn’t giving up that easily in Howdy Arabia.

If the Texas Supreme Court and Paxton force Kate Cox to go through this pregnancy they have no idea of the electoral fire they will be igniting. To paraphrase Phil Gramm (that sack of shit), "They'll be hunting Republicans with dogs."
Avatar
I think you have a better option of the voters of Texas than they have earned.

The irreparable and irremediable harm allowing the abortion would have been? Oh, the woman would have lowered her odds of dying.
Avatar
Does this mean the Texas Medical Board as well as the Executive Director support Paxton's position? I know the president of the board. He goes pretty well which ever way the political wind blows. I am an MD in Arkansas, with similar laws in place.
Avatar
Why would it mean that?
Avatar
From their being mentioned along side Paxton in the stay.
Avatar
Then let me adjust my question: why wouldn't it mean that?
Avatar
Because lawyer stuff often does not mean what mere mortals think it does. I was hoping Ken or another lawyer would weigh with an interpretation. I should run it by the two lawyers my family is plagued with. One even is in TX.

We need to set up an asylum program for Texans who want to leave.
Avatar
Agreed. I see anyone who doesn’t vote republican in that crap state as being held hostage by a hostile foreign power
Only after extreme vetting.

I hope Paxton finds some way to discover a pinhole black hole that appears right on his scrotum.

We do not survive this. Our society is crumbling right before our eyes. We need a plan to become insurgents when fascism becomes official. I think we are already there
Avatar
Whether we like it or not, fascists rely on violence as part of their governance. This is an example of state-sponsored violence. Fascism has arrived not bearing a cross, wrapped in the flag, but more ordinarily. Democratically. They were all elected and re-elected.
Avatar
You are correct. And you and I are part of the 500000 people in the USA that understand this.
Avatar
Violence is the lingua franca of fascism.
Avatar
Yeah that's already occurred to me
Avatar
I so hope she got the abortion before any of this fuckery started
Avatar
She surely awaited the decision in a clinic, so it happened minutes after the decision, and didn't wait for others to weigh in? I certainly hope so

This is a Republican party problem and it's national. The party is now under the control of a weird Christo-nationalist cult. Check out the new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

So, the Texas Executive Branch decides to run over the Texas Courts, and the Texas Supreme Court backs them up? That's very odd indeed.
Jesus, can someone just give me a site I can donate to let this poor woman go out of state?
Avatar
I want Ken Paxton to get aggressive ass cancer and shit himself to death on live TV.
Avatar
Everything's shitter in Texas?
Avatar
Sorry for ignorance - but how does this stake with the 8th Amendment? Can the government torture you with denying medical care?
Avatar
Court reporting is why sentence diagramming was invented, I think
Avatar
I feel sick reading this. Goddess protect that woman.
Avatar
This is why the rightwing extremists want this stuff in the court system in the first place – not to fairly adjudicate it, but to run out the clock on the female’s ability to choose another direction from the one they demand. It’s using the letter of the law to defeat its spirit.
Avatar
*through gritted teeth* I hope they have a very nice day. Nice for this poor mother, anyway.
Avatar
Can we give Texas back to Mexico? I'd be ok with that.
Avatar
Ken Paxton should be held personally liable for any adverse medical outcomes and all expenses.
Avatar
Avatar
The worst part of this is that the court knows the AG is a lying criminal who belongs in jail.
