I was driving home to Chicago area from Michigan and had to hunker down at a McDonald’s in northwest Indiana with the whole family. 10pm, banging on the locked doors for someone to let us in while rain is blowing horizontally in our faces.
When I was in high school I was reading a lot about right wing militia groups and how domestic terrorism was this huge problem in the US but under-reported & prosecuted bc it was being perpetrated by white guys against black & immigrant communities. We are on a decades-long trajectory.
I’m steeling myself against the mental wear and tear of watching democrats be more “upset” about Trump’s bruised ear than they’ve been about thousands of dead Palestinians.
Considering The NY Times published a completely speculative editorial taking basically the same stance w/in hours of the shooting, I don’t think the GOP has anything to worry about.
And we’re so far out from the mass protests of 2020 and “ANTIFA vandals coming for your suburb” rhetoric that the most public unrest people see on a regular basis is a guy with a beard down to his belt buckle filibustering the local school board meeting until they ban a biography of Rosa Parks.
Also, leave it to The NY Times to write an editorial when there are basically zero details regarding who or why. Could this be political opposition? Sure. It could also be a stalker or just a disturbed person. Per usual, they’re shaping a narrative instead of reporting the news.
The Democrats likely need to deal with anger/despair/media narrative as potential turnout suppressors, but I honestly don’t believe anyone is switching from Biden to Trump (or vice versa) at this point: they’re avatars for deeply held, violently clashing worldviews.
So insulting after watching HOTD behind the scenes episodes where they build elaborate sets and practical effects contraptions for a few minutes of screen time. Disney just wants everything cheap and ugly.
I feel like every election the Democrats assume they’ll blow the Republican out of the water in debates and it never pans out or has the impact they’re hoping for. But even by those standards the gap between how strong the candidate is and how strong the campaign THINKS he is is a wonder to behold.
This evil makes me sick. It shows the perversity of our global power structure that the President of the United States gave a press conference yesterday at a gathering of world leaders and to my count only one reporter asked about this “war” (and even that was kind of a softball).
“A spokesman for Gaza’s Civil Defence tells Al Jazeera that 60 bodies have so far been found in Gaza City’s Tal al-Hawa area, after Israeli troops pulled out this morning. He said that dozens more are feared to be under rubble…”
I was on board with this argument but at the press conference they asked about this and it sounded like he was conceding that “bridge to the next generation” meant he was signaling a single term and changed his mind due to “the gravity of the situation”
I don’t understand this campaign at all: 1) a freewheeling press conference isn’t Biden’s strength in the best of times, 2) he’s supposed to be convincing his own party of his fitness to serve and, per usual, he’s trying to convince an imaginary middle that he’s been a good president (past tense).
I think it’s weird people are hung up on a fake Biden one-term deception when there are actual Biden administration deceptions you can be mad about, e.g.: his cognitive decline and the realities in Gaza.
I legitimately don’t believe that the person torn between Trump & Biden actually exists. At this point it’s about turnout and Biden’s main weaknesses are a) the media writing him off, b) he chose to write off progressives, young people & people of color throughout his presidency
the editor of the New York Times reacting to a potential Trump second term with “fasten your seatbelts” is so deeply vile i can’t wrap my mind around it. these people have detached themselves so completely from the things they cover that the rise of fascism becomes just something exciting to watch
Alright timeline cleanser time:
What are some bad movies that you unironically love? I don’t mean like MST3K love here. It’s not a good movie, but you enjoy it on its own merits anyway
I am starting with The Accountant
