In 2028, Gen X will be between 45 and 65 years old. It seems likely that someone from that cohort will be on one or both tickets.

Well that lady, while not always evil, rarely fails to be obtuse (there will be plenty of normie Republicans in a second Trump admin, and they will be powerless to stop the concentration camps if they are even inclined to try)

I think that is probably untrue of many great writers. But so many people these days want to get into that racket that "don't bother unless you will be miserable if you don't" is probably pretty good advice.

There is no reason to be hysterical about undocumented immigrants, other than racism.

I would think that the wholesale repudiation by his party of Reagan/Bush foreign policy would concern him more, even as he (wrongly) believes that the deep state will somehow head off an administration bent on rooting his kind out.

In preparation for tonight's speeches about Safety, which Republicans think has something to do with immigration, some data. First, a study of crime rates in Texas from 2012-18. Why Texas, you ask? It requires reporting and breaks arrests down by immigration status. www.pnas.org/doi/epdf/10....

Half the philosophers Ganz cites are ones whom, to put it mildly, he finds questionable. He happens to think that, for better or worse, intellectuals matter (which is debatable! I suspect that if Rothbard had never lived, the social forces that created him would have found some other vehicle)

Rick Santorum was crying about this over a decade ago. Apparently if someone can make money off of something, it's wrong for the govt to provide it for free.

The thing is, there's no way to distinguish in advance between a full-blown Hitler and a mere Franco; Hitler didn't campaign on death camps. That's why you can't vote for anyone who even sounds like that, and why the Holocaust that might ensue is absolutely your fault if you do.

Had a training thing once in Dayton; nearly the whole corridor from Dayton to Cincinnati (which includes Middletown) is developed.

He supposedly clerked in a grocery store in high school. It is most unlikely that they didn't sell wine and Perrier, even c. 2000 when this all took place.

The Minutemen have a ripping cover of that song; the original, with its echoes of the Sun Sessions, doesn't seem nearly as sure-footed as the cover (or as CCR's best stuff)

Forty years ago this week, Greg Abbott had his spine crushed by a falling tree while on a jog in Houston. Abbott sued the tree owner, winning millions. Decades later, as governor, Abbott made sure Texans would never be able to do the same, thanks to tort reform. www.chron.com/politics/art...

Literally nothing is left of the Reagan Revolution except the racism.

It's good. The things I don't like -- we've all heard about the cases of dog-piling of late -- are probably endemic to social media.

Not that anything matters, but J.D. Vance's domestic situation growing up -- raised not wealthy but secure by grandparents -- was almost identical to that of Barack Obama.

Tiger mom is as much of a nihilist as Vance is; I'm sure she can't wait until the first state dinner

I'm not going anywhere else. I don't really need to be on social media even this much.

I have come to believe that the best tactic is to keep scrolling. I suspect the algo interprets any other action (blocking, muting, deleting) as "engagement".

The ones who never believed in any of it were present at the founding, waged war against the Union, have always been ~30% of the public, and are now the majority of one of the two political parties. Trump is their messiah, the one they have been waiting for all their lives.

I reject violence categorically, for myself at any rate. But everything else would be on the table: protest, civil disobedience, whatever subversion that might fall within my very limited purview to commit (eg would absolutely house ppl who were not safe from Trump)

Absolutely do everything that you can to help Democrats win. But also a plan for 2025 and beyond if we lose.
