SCOTUS says it's okay to bribe officials as long as you pay after you receive the thing you paid for
The final SCOTUS decision today is Snyder v. US. Kavanaugh has the court's 6-3 decision on ideological grounds, holding that the Section 666 bribery statute does not apply to "gratuities" given for public officials' *past* acts. Jackson writes the liberals' dissent.

How is it _less_ corrupt to make the gift contingent on successful completion of the official act? I'm losing my mind

How long until SCOTUS sees a case where someone is being sued for NOT paying a bribe.

the bribes are such rinky-dink sums compared to what they get in return that this would be pretty egregious

So "for services rendered", then. I feel so much better. Why is it I think that two justices are looking out after their own asses?

Is it still customary to tip your justice 20%?

Suitcases of cash? BAD! Paying an invoice: SURE!

Thought experiment- Imagine Fox News reaction if Planned Parenthood/George Soroe/boogieman of the day set up a GoFundMe to thank Justice Brown Jackson for her work on Delware v. Pennslyvania.

Will the memo on the check say "For Services Rendered"? 🤔

"I'm good at my job, and people like me. They give me things - like gold bars - out of appreciation for my service. In general of course, never for specific deliverables. If that doesn't happen to you at your workplace, it must be skill issue."

It's impressive that this one is so egregious that the liberal wing defected even though they've in recent history been mostly on-board with the doctrine of Corruption Isn't Corruption Unless You Say Into The Mic, "I'm Doing A Corruption."
So now they get paid after they rule in someone’s favor..i see. That sounds so much better 🙄

Chief Justice Colombo: I just can't make sense of this. Mrs. Sullivan gave Knuckles Brody 50 grand after he killed her rich husband? Why would she do that?
Avatar
I foresee problems if the bribe takes the form of an ongoing retainer for services rendered.

none of that "half up front, half after the job" compromising for this court

perfectly timed with their planned installation of president bribe-o-matic coming up

We can call it the "Paul Ryan Rule".

So the message is...always do a bribery on tick? Okay then

It’s a gratuity, Michael. How much could it cost? Thirteen thousand dollars?
Avatar
Okay, but see the thing is, I don’t have that much on hand. Can I give you a little down now, and pay the rest later when I’m more liquid again? Would you take a single good-faith dollar?
