Boeing apologizes for miscalculating how many of you they could kill cutting corners before everyone got all mad
classic weakly regulated capitalism will kill us all headline

Here at Boeing we value customers. Especially in relation how much lawsuits say their lives are worth.
Avatar
it's unfair that we force Boeing to go to the trouble of having to build these planes that fall apart instead of just giving them money to do nothing, which is what the executives and shareholders would much rather do instead of having to pay for production, workers, all this 'aerospace' stuff
Avatar
Just give them money w/o the planes would result in fewer deaths, that's for sure
Avatar
modern companies and their investors more and more would much rather simply be able to raid bank accounts than perform any sort of useful service or produce any decent products
Avatar
You're basically talking about most of the modern financial industry.
Avatar
Especially not testing. Nobody needs testing.
Avatar
What I like about Boeing is their open door policy.
Avatar
Our actuaries would like all of our shareholders to know that we very much care about safety
Avatar
Actuaries have several years of credentialing and ongoing education requirements. Risk management for manufacturing is done by engineers who have finished a one week course.
Avatar
I don't think the engineers are working on the lawsuits
Avatar
According to the Department of Transportation, a life is worth about $12 million

They just got Ford Pintoed
Avatar
Or as the kids say, just got Tesla'd

Corvaired out the side of a Boeing.
Avatar
Following in the “great” tradition of Ford and the Pinto. A car who had the unfortunate tendency of bursting into flame after minor rear emd collisiobs due to shitty engineering. They actually ran a cost benefit analysis of recalling and found it was cheaper to let people burn to death and be sued

Avatar
It’s your own fault for getting into a rear collision

I’ve quit flying 15 years ago. Nothing to worry about on my side. Altough I like to fly high from what I grow in my moms garden.
Avatar
Avatar
Yes those too. Especially when we turn them into Passata and cook a delicious sauce on fresh homemade pasta. That makes me fly even higher😁😋

You are the Walter White of Red Meth

They don't... SEEM like they're apologizing

We’ll see.

"We used to have a very strong company culture of producing high quality airplanes, but then we merged with McDonnell Douglas, and an important part of merging our two company cultures was to increase the priority of getting product out the door under budget, even if is crap."
Avatar
Or how many people can we kill and still stay in business.
Avatar
Companies are all about greed $$
Avatar
Avatar
Which is what happens when you fail to remove a bad board & put the same people in charge that caused the last catastrophe. Its also what happens when a government stops enforcing regulations & treats corporations like people. Bad leaders can recklessly kill consumers, walk away & do it again.
Avatar
Avatar
I’m starting to suspect that the invisible hand isn’t enough to make corporations do the right thing. Huh.

Tragic last words of doomed Boeing Pilot: "Tail came off. We're in a steep dive. Hopefully, our stock price won't do the same." [Begins humming the Air Force Anthem]
Avatar
Is literally the dril Racism Dial tweet except with Killing People
Avatar
And yet Boeing (BA) stock has not cratered as a result. Still doing fine at $210, with a modest drop over the past few months, despite critical failures and no real change in their corporate culture of bean counters over engineers.

I wonder what year Boeing started to Cut Every Corner so they have more time for play (It's the American way!!*) *Does not apply to all Americans

"We thought that there wouldn't be enough dead people to upset you..."

Gotta love those tricky balances. “Urban sprawl has reached so far into the desert that some of our favorite shooting spots are threatened—tricky balance having to pick targets so you’re not likely to shoot directly towards someone’s house.”
Who are you to say that your life is truely worth more than some investor's wallet?
Avatar
Obviously Safety wasn’t a concern for them at all.
Avatar
Avatar
Balance between these two. Safety and economics. What next 😂
Avatar
You summarize that very accurately! The shocking part of this, though, is that the NYT (the headline appeared in a Jan 2024 article) thinks this is a rational, humane, way for Boeing to run their business. They are as sick as Boeing management.

Okay, this literally made my head spin and my eyes did this 😵‍💫 I may be having a stroke…
I don’t fly anymore primarily because of this stuff. I’d love to take the train, but that’s not viable for most places.
