How can you remember to keep breathing inside of a brain like this? He “got tired of holding the gun” (he was prohibited from having)? Does he ever “get tired of holding” his wallet, do you think? #GunFAIL www.wfmz.com/news/area/le...

100%!!! See Langston Hughes: "Let America Be America Again": "America never was America to me, And yet I swear this oath— America will be!" poets.org/poem/let-ame...
i don't talk about it as much in this piece but it could not be more obvious that dressing yourself up in the rhetoric of America as irredeemably evil might play well to the online crowd but wrapping the very same idea in a red white and blue flag is how you win real change

I really don’t think most people realize just how hard the boot will come down if Trump and the Republicans win the election. Most people have never experienced the totalitarian surveillance state with the power to reach into their homes and minds at will they are telling us is their plan.

JUST IN: Polls closed in France. Exit polls show surprise: —Left coalition (New Popular Front) projected first. (!) —Far-right (RN) has lost its bid to take power. Anti-RN front appears to have worked very well. —No bloc close to majority. Follow this 🧵 for results and more:

Did you know: 1) There are 3 versions of the 10 Commandments in the bible, 2) The 2 in Genesis are WILDLY different, but the bible claims they're the same. The 2nd makes no mention of stealing, killing, bearing false witness or adultery. 3) Louisiana's version is a patchwork bsky.app/profile/did:...

Around the world, the left keep saving the center while getting nothing but condescension from the haughty, dubiously-democratic ingrates.
The French are world leaders at "The govt sucks, I'm voting for my ideal, no way I'll compromise, you compromise" (round 1) followed by "The only way to stop the far right? Ugh, fine." (round 2). Often a responsibility placed more on the left, but this time the center too, perhaps more. Let's see...

Worse. No clue that THEY might be part of the problem. These are the folks who've repeatedly failed to invest strategically where hardworking unpaid/underpaid activists have been begging for help. They've let crucial state parties wither, not even considered building grassroots media, etc, etc, etc
One thing rich people forget–or if they're heirs, never learned–is that life can deal you a bad hand & there's no option but to make the best of it & play it out anyway. Huge "I demand to speak to the manager" vibes here.

The Constitution actually has a really tried and tested mechanism for dealing with presidents dropping dead on the job. Or even before they've really started it. You know what it's having a hard time with? Would-be autocrats no one seems to be willing to rein in
I mean, Trump is an insane felon rapist and a lot of people still voted for him. There’s no rule that says we have to honorably give a shit about if our candidate comes off as slightly addled, especially when we’ve got a perfectly good VP who can take over as soon as he makes it past the post.

I've seen the UK's chattering classes refer to the "disproportionate success" of the Liberal Democrats, playing the first past the post game to get 71 seats out of 12.2% of the vote. 71/650 = 10.9% of seats from 12.2% of the vote. Surely they mean "proportionate success"?

In fact, if you take Trump's word for it, he's clearly the weakest executive this country has ever had, with now-countless examples of "stupid" and "terrible" people doing things on his authority that he had "no idea" were happening and "completely disagreed" with.
If Trump knows nothing about Project 2025 he's way more out of it than Biden. (Trump is lying but he is, in fact, way more out of it than Biden, who may be in fact be too out of it to be president).

I’m sorry, what?! Have folks memory-holed the coverage of Trump’s first term? This came up!
The discourse around biden needing more sleep is fully insane. Does no one remember "Executive Time," the thing Trump spent the majority(!) of his schedule on where he would just watch TV and tweet? Dude was categorically unable to fulfill any of the demands of the office and the press barely cared
