Pretty clear that the last couple of hours did nothing but confirm this
Just a reminder: it’s good to oppose assassinations. But you are under absolutely no obligation to treat Trumpists and Trump-apologists as people who are honest, or acting in good faith, when they purport to condemn political violence or violent rhetoric. They’re not sincere.

what are we doing here? he accidentally said million instead of billion and then immediately knew it and corrected himself. he didn’t “flub a line” and then “make an effort to correct himself,” he did the speaking equivalent of a typo that you know you’ve made and instantly correct

R E.M.'s music has been a touchstone of my life since I saw them open for Gang of Four at the Ritz in June 1981. One of the few bands worthy of such a moving tribute as this one from Annie Z
Berry, Buck, Mills and Stipe playing together as R.E.M. tonight at the Songwriters Hall of Fame(!!) induction ceremony merits a newsletter about fandom, growing with our favorite music and (of course) the lovely "Losing My Religion" performance. anniezaleski.substack.com/p/oh-life-it...

The courts have given media a freebie to start using basic words for Donald Trump and assume basic facts are in evidence. When you don't see that, you're seeing a choice.

As a long time, now former Texas resident, I can't endorse this enough
The thing about Texas is, there are 1000 good reasons to live here. 900 of them relate to nature, others to arts and food. It’s so heartbreaking that the roughly 12 dimwitted oligarchs who run this place as a private feifdom have made it unsafe for so many people to even travel here.

Brazenly fascist Supreme Court justice flaunting the total absence of SCOTUS accountability
An upside-down American flag — a symbol embraced by Donald Trump’s supporters who falsely claimed the 2020 election was stolen — flew at Justice Samuel Alito’s home while the Supreme Court was considering an election case in early 2021. nyti.ms/3QP6nGu

This, to me, is an important critique private equity firms and the current phase of vulture capitalism in addition to AI. There is no goal of creating a product, something to be enjoyed or desired, something to be proud of. It’s fundamentally about extracting or using rather than doing or making.
And when you devalue craftsmanship and expertise, you’re devaluing practice, synthesizing knowledge, experience from living. You’re devaluing humanness and individuality.
