Qualified immunity means the officers can't be punished in any way for this crime they committed. Even if they get suspended it will be with pay (so a paid vacation). If fired they'll just get a job with another department. End qualified immunity.

Reminder that QI only applies to civil liability. If it applies, the officers cannot be sued. But they can be charged with crimes. Thats why public pressure on prosecutors to hold police accountable is so important.

That’s certainly true but it’s more common now than it has been. Pushing for change works but it is terribly slow and disheartening.

I wonder if that's true. There's not really a lot of official comprehensive tracking going on of police assault/murder let alone follow ups on every case. The end result is still usually either nothing or a (up to years long) paid vacation from what I've seen

If the video favours them it's out in hours. If it doesn't they fight tooth and nail to hold it because the incident is being investigated or some such boll. Or it's corrupted in a system transfer or some other excuse. Poor kid, what a tragedy.

I mean, she was in the crosshairs because she was in the same car that he fled in after the murder I assume they thought that saying she had been abducted would make the police more likely to protect her; sadly, they were wrong

chase and manhunt was prompted not by the shooting (not clear if it was murder — says shots fired so who knows what was going down if daughter was choosing to live in his van instead of with the mom) but by the amber alert purporting the daughter was kidnapped reported by the relatives
