One of the few things I had long planned to write a blog or whatever about, but I was slow and lazy and @lolgop.bsky.social did it first. These sickos are unable to imagine anyone deserving to eat unless someone else deserves to starve. www.theframelab.org/yes-republic...
Yes, Republicans really believe in starving kidswww.theframelab.org What GOP states' cruel rejection of lunch for poor kids reveals about the right-wing brain. And how to fight it

I dunno, this seems like it is a relevant story to pursue and surface if we are REALLY debating presidential fitness through anonymously sourced news stories, only this isn’t anonymous. There’s a reason this has been ignored by the Post/NYT/etc. for the last four days and it’s isn’t civic virtue.

This irresistible pressure to represent the two sides as equally flawed is felt nowhere more than in the media, whose business model requires novelty & tension. They *can't* report honestly on a contest with only one legitimate contestant. They *have* to tear them down to the other's level.

We're not just talking about people's preferences here, but their livelihoods, how they're gonna pay the bills. We've institutionalized a 2 party system, which is an obfuscatory way of saying 'made it unavoidable for the most powerful people in society to pretend an election is btwn two equal sides'

The core issue is here: the 2024 election, like 2016 and 2020, isn't a real choice. The elite political system failed in its filtering function and generated one unacceptable option, out of only two. Everyone understands this, but about half of them have invincible partisan reason to deny it.

1. Voters generally reject fascism when they know that's the choice. 2. Thus, the MAGA freakout at people figuring out what Project 2025 does.

Things seem bleak but it’s probably a bad sign for Republicans that people have started mentioning their actual goals and political blueprint and their response is “how fucking dare you??”

Okay, first set of call scripts. I know I'm not the only one getting 2016/"But her emails!!!" flashbacks.

These mistakes originalist justices are making aren’t about disputed interpretations of history, with evidence on both sides. They’re pulling quotes out of context to attribute ideas to founding figures that those figures adamantly opposed. (via @andycraig.bsky.social) reason.com/volokh/2024/...

1. elite media finds a herd issue 2. elected dems (usually backbenchers) read the columns about it 3. columnists know electeds are reading, write more columns 4. panic sets in 5. columnists want to keep the panic going >>> you are here 6. electeds do something fatally stupid

bad luck for biden to run in an electoral cycle where "are you old" is the most important issue instead of in one of the cycles where email security procedures or accuracy of vietnam war medal citations was the most important issue in the country.

We need more, but credit where due: both The Nation (June 2024 issue) and Boston Review have run a breakdown of the Project 2025 “Mandate for Leadership” document. Media Matters, too. Lots of good work going on digesting this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins... www.mediamatters.org/project-2025
Where are the columnists who are experts in specific fields, breaking down what the Heritage Foundation + Trump want to do to each individual federal agency? E.g. I read the section dedicated to our intelligence agencies, and had to stop, since I was starting to feel a little nauseous.

Artificial scarcity is an existential part of the Republican Party. Convince the working classes they must fight each other for pieces of the needlessly-small pie, while the GOP gets busy cutting taxes & creating new subsidies for billionaires.

^ This is not only a very good thing, we should be boosting news like this. The more we can speak to people in our lives and: 1) Make sure they know Project 2025 is terrifying, and 2) Explain the current Admin.'s achievements, the better.

"I don't know anything about Project 2025" says man recording Project 2025 promotional video in front of Project 2025 publication. More substantively, Project 2025 has embraced Trump and Miller's immigration approach of using power to close both legal and illegal immigration.

Stephen Miller now following Trump's lead and saying he has nothing to do with Project 2025. 1. His organization is on the Project 2025 advisory board. 2. He recorded a video as part of Project 2025 training tools 3. You can see Mandate for Leadership, the Project 2025 publication in the background

so then when the right wing is like “okay everyone! here’s our to-do list! made by us, with our names on it! there’s a timeline and a work plan and everyone signed off on it!”, I think a lot of normie voters just went like “wait wtf am I looking at” because they really did not believe us before
Avatar
the problem, more often than we realize, is simply that they don’t believe anyone could really be that cartoonishly evil, and they’re looking around for any excuse to avoid confronting that as reality. “they can’t legally do that”, “that’s an extreme example”, “biased sources”, “misspoke,” etc

it’s almost like, once people find out what Republicans actuslly want to do, most of them are horrified

genuinely hopeful sign that every big name GOP garbage monster is frantically trying to distance themselves from Project Say The Quiet Part Loud In an Easily-Digestible Bullet Point Format About Which There Can Be No Confusion. this means we should all absolutely continue never shutting up about it
