Last night, I took my kid to her first K-pop show (Stray Kids). Aside from a few songs, it’s not my thing. But it’s her thing, and it’s endlessly fascinating to see. A thread with some thoughts.

#grief On Wednesday evening, my mother passed away. It was expected but much more sudden than we had anticipated. Thankfully, F and I were able to make it back to NZ on time but it really has been a devastating few days on top of months of anxiety.

I haven’t really posted on here about what’s been going on and I’m reticent to share too much but I’m also feeling a bit idk isolated so I’ll likely do so soon and tag any serious business stuff with #grief. Please feel free to mute the tag and/or me at will - no hard feelings whatsoever. 💜

I recommend this thread. I only read the abstract of the paper and was unconvinced but also it’s not my expertise, so I kept quiet. Studies like these can be interpreted in misleading ways (sometimes that is in fact the intention of the researcher) and I wondered if that was happening here

Hi, friends! I know that any time arsenic or lead come up in studies, it’s concerning! However, as someone with a PhD in biology and a MSc in toxicology, there is nothing in that recent study that makes me concerned tampon use could increase the levels of these compounds in my body.

OK besides this below and DEVO coming out of the Kent State massacre, what are other facts you have about the evolution of art / music /etc that wouldn't be obvious if you didn't know but, retroactively, explain and/or illuminate a LOT ?

Reminds me of how almost all the French dadaists and surrealists were WWI veterans of the trenches seriously exploring alternatives to conventional thought and language.
