A lesson from an old boxer, AND a guy whose been in politics, AND an attorney: If you think you're gonna lose, you're probably right. A lot of good can happen if you take a breath, put your mouthguard in, and fight.

As a staunch opponent of political violence, I greatly prefer when national leaders respond to it by condemning violence and expressing concern for victims (image 1) rather than encouraging violence and laughing at victims (image 2).

This is an important language shift that I wish more people would adopt
I'd like to suggest a crucial distinction, one between "mental" unfitness for the presidency and "temperamental" unfitness for it. Some polls use the former language, and there Biden loses. But when it's polled as the latter, Biden leads Trump. 3/ newrepublic.com/article/1837...

I'm no ivy league fail upward brunchlord news professional, but I feel it's generous to call conspiratorial fascism (managed by a sociopathic manbaby with a fourth grade reading level) "disruptive" that's kind of like saying nuclear annihilation is "modifying"

Every snippet of this I see, I keep finding new things wrong with it. The "atomization of the individual" (lack of community ties) is because we've destroyed communal gathering spaces for the sake of capital and rampant criminalization/fearmongering.
Tired: Project 2025 wants to bring back the Sabbath. Wired: Project 2025 will ban Sunday sportsball games and forget about getting beer.

if you ever wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep, I recommend petting a cat it won't necessarily help you sleep but they like it a lot and it'll make you feel better about being awake

If they’re comfortable killing other people, they will eventually be comfortable killing you. You can learn that lesson the easy way or the hard way.

I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.

It really is a weird symmetry that this year the UK elections are the 4th of July and the US elections are the 5th of November.

this is what building community is tho! even if it feels small. people caring about people is what keeps us all going, even if it's just a few bucks, or attention, or care. not all of us are organizers, or capable of a lot of sacrifice, but giving what you can is what makes us human and special
Feeling despair at the world and something that no bullshit made me feel a little better was giving ten bucks to support someone’s work on Patreon. Not that it’s a big deal but being able to go “oh I like this, I want more of this in the world” made me feel like I had .00000001% control of things.

many people are saying that the NYT’s disastrous performance at writing editorials that seem lazy and out of touch reflect a newspaper not up to the challenges of its rigorous job

Anyway, billionaires spend a lot of money on depriving their opponents of the right or will to vote, and they aren't opening their wallet out of the kindness of their hearts. It's because it does, when all is said and done, matter quite a lot
