WBD's stock price has tanked ~78% since David Zaslav was announced as CEO— $32.68 on 05/19/21 to $7.32, today— to say nothing of the brand loyalty, goodwill, & creative talent he's destroyed. It is amazing & genuinely horrifying that anyone could fail this badly, & remain in a position of authority
David Zaslav has failed at literally everything he was hired to do and he should have every cent he's earned garnished and used to compensate all the people he fucked over in his pursuit of this unmitigated disaster of a result. variety.com/2024/tv/news...

Also, a general reminder that if you like indie games, wishlisting them before release and leaving a thumbs up review after you play them can have an outsize impact on a small dev!

Sometimes a bit of hardware changes a whole industry, only it takes a bit for the industry to realize it. This week’s Techpod is about the Intellimouse Explorer and how it changed mice forever. techpod.content.town/episodes/240...

There's an interesting problem in digital preservation, which is that preservation only exists actively. Only the things you actively move to new formats, survives. Community is probably the same way: it has to be actively maintained in order to outlive whatever spot it's currently in.

@ass.golf Just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy Questionable Content. I got introduced to the comic in Feb or March, started from the beginning, and I’ve been current for the past week or so.

Libraries are one of the most radical social institutions we have, because they’re based on the idea that *everyone* has the right to information, for free. It’s also what makes them crucial to democracy. I will never stop yelling about this!
Poor people use libraries. Rich people shut them down because they don't *want* poor people to read.

My family couldn’t have afforded all the books I read as a kid. Those books are a big part of why I am where I am today. LIBRARIES are a big part of why I am where I am today. Libraries are engines of upward mobility. Libraries are a path to the American Dream. Of COURSE rich people hate them.

Note well, "Luca" and "Turning Red" were the Pixar movies (along with "Soul") that were released directly to Disney+ during the pandemic. Luca was the #1 streamed movie of 2021; Turning Red was the #2 streamed movie of 2022. That seems pretty universal. (Soul also streamed well + 2 Oscars.)
Just fold the studio into Disney and kill it already. Make Toy Story sequels till the sun fucking burns out. Love how this shift conveniently happened when more woman/POC were really pushing to direct their own stories. Defining their experiences as not "universal" is saying the quiet part aloud.

Apparently Schrödinger’s Cat wasn't something people knew about until Ursula wrote about it. She knew, because she read about relativity and quantum mechanics while she was writing her physicist character in The Dispossessed. physicsworld.com/a/ursula-le-...

A literal tragedy
“…a public library in Idaho will be restricting their entire facility to those 18 + older beginning July 1, 2024. Donnelly Public Library is unable to comply with the state's newly-passed House Bill 710 (HB 710) due to the tiny size of their facility, their small budget, + their lack of an attorney”
An Idaho Public Library Will Become Adults-Only July 1, 2024literaryactivism.substack.com The decision is a result of a state bill that allows parents to sue libraries with "inappropriate material."

libraries: they're great even for non-fraud stuff!
Also if you've never been to a library or used a VPN before, prosecutors can argue that it's at least suspicious if you start doing so around the crime times Which is to say, go to your public library. It's great even for non-fraud stuff
