the whole ‘actually, killing the villain makes us just as bad as him’ trope had done incomprehensible damage to society and i’m not kidding

"If you kill a killer the number of killers in the world doesn't decrease" Yeah but if you kill fifty killers...

yea it did always feel like the only answer to that is just 'so I should kill two killers then'

I think a better response is "Perhaps, but the number of victims stops increasing."
Avatar
Yeah that only applies the first time, if you keep killing they get more and more moral each time

I don't even think it's that bad for a hero to have hang ups about killing the villain. I just think it's a little silly that the hero usually elects to take this one moral high ground, while standing atop a hill of lesser villains and mooks who were somehow totally fine to kill.
Avatar
Yeah, me too. I prefer nonkilling heroes but I'm not for the ones that kill the henchmen en masse but only go nonkill on bosses. Interestingly, Superman is the opposite of that, constantly saving every henchman, petty criminal and human boss and reserving death for just Kryptonian fascists.

I need to steal that meme.

This, or Batman most definitely leaving goons of villains half dead and likely paralyzed, when they joined the villain out of economic desperation. Honestly it’s worse than killing them.

The netflix Daredevil show is probably my favourite "thou shalt not kill" hero series ever. Like, Matt, I know you're blind, but there's no way you don't know that you straight up murdered some of those dudes.

saying “killing the villain makes us just as bad as him” makes us just as bad as him
Avatar
Um yes but surely saying "saying 'killing the villain makes us just as bad as him' makes us just as bad as him" makes us just as bad as him
Avatar
no, but I hope it's not controversial to say that saying "saying saying killing the villain makes us just as bad as him makes us just as bad as him makes us just as bad as him" makes us just as bad as him
Avatar
There has to be a mathematical way to express the next step of this proof in a clear and concise manner.
Avatar
That would make us just as bad as him

Fx=x(saying)+(killing the villain)+x(makes us just as bad as him)
Avatar
Sorry y’all, I just noticed I missed a constant: Fx=x(saying)+(killing the villain)+(1+x)(makes us just as bad as him)

I think every Disney villain should be executed honestly.

Frollo can be resurrected and killed twice

absolutely oh my gosh and then some more

Man is uncomfortably relevant and resonant recently
Avatar
I mean he fucked around and surely found out when he fell from a huge height into molten whatever it was, so he kinda double died.
Avatar
Literally eaten by hyenas. Probably not a fun way to go—especially with all the laughing while chewing. Disney went all in on that one.
Avatar
unfortunately the series continues and claims he didnt die, dumb disney bastards
Avatar
That's fucking absurd. Canceling Disney Plus now. Kids will be crushed but I have ethics and aesthetics.

Batman and its consequences

My Batman is the Burton version that would strap bombs to people then shove them down a manhole and laugh.

If you say his name three times he turns up at your house in his pyjamas and reduces the living population of the structure to zero.
Avatar
My Batman is the RPat one that’s a sullen goth psychopath with parental issues whose car won’t start.
Avatar
You don't understand Batman then. The whole point of refusing to kill is because if he kills he can cause the same harm that happened to him. he wants to stop crime, murder is the easy way to do it. Convincing them to not be criminals is better. Everyone can be called a criminal.

Batman should have shot joker in the head the first time he escaped from Arkham, and certainly before he was able to rack up a 4 digit body count. He's directly responsible for every one of those deaths he could have stopped. Poor little billionaire and his trauma while normal people suffer and die.
Avatar
I theoretically agree with you, but infinite escape Joker is also comicsverse Joker, and Batman may know he’d just come back as a Black Lantern or some other nonsense.
