Not a duck but people think they are. the double crested cormorant is a funky guy who winters in extremely high numbers where I live. Winter birds are always fun to see come in. When I first saw the comic It felt really fitting for the cormorants.

They like to pop up at you out of the water. the ones here aren’t afraid of people. The fishermen throw them fish they can’t keep, but they’re still very polite.

Seeing this comic and then being really confused made me realize just how far north I am relative to a lot of people...summer is brilliantly weird duck time in Saskatchewan, winter is just owls, ravens, magpies, and VERY angry chickadees

You got me beat. The owls are pretty rare, so I don't see them often. I call it the season of black, black and white, and brown blurrs.

So far the ducks I've seen on this side of the SF Bay have only been mallards and what the nature center sign said are pintails, but it's possible we get other weird ducks. We also get black coots, which are not-quite-ducks.
