I hope people take solace in the left winning in both Britain and France this week. Take the positives where you can, folks. For real.

We’re very lucky in Victoria that it’s not that hot right now. Lytton and other places are in extreme heat. I’ve got my AC on because I’m a wimp after three days or higher temps — and I’m working at home.

So voting is better than *not* voting when it comes to getting what you want? Huh.
BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

So NYT is claiming a glitch made it seem like they had left Threads. So they are still there. I did a search when I first heard they left and they didn’t come up, so who knows.

lmao, they’re running from *threads*? PG-rated twitter? twitter for people who can’t fight? lol
Wow. @nytimes.com has closed their Threads account and left the platform after days of getting just shredded in the replies for their handling of Biden post debate. Now they're getting dog piled on Instagram for running from Threads.

I expected to be sad all season for this year’s Masterchef Australia, because I loved Jock Zonfrillo so much, but they did a great job of picking co-hosts to help Andy really grow this season as head judge. I’m sad the season is over soon — I’m so emotionally involved. They’ve done great.

Remember when some of y'all got real mad at me for doing some back-of-the-napkin math about how much water "AI" likely uses, in light of the fact that they refuse to release their actual numbers? Anyway.
Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

As of today, 91 fires in B.C., fewer than we had at the start of May. No fires of note. 76% are “under control,” and 22% are “out of control” (and yet not significant enough to be a ‘fire of note’). Hopefully this can continue.

I found a story on the WWII Late Arrivals Club — ostensibly was largely allied pilots who went down in North Africa, who often escaped capture through the help of Arabs and other locals. (Another article I saw said it included maybe 500 pilots total in the Second World War.)
Went to a guy’s wake in my neigbourhood recently after he* died at 104, and on his wall was a framed certificate that said: LATE ARRIVALS CLUB Turned out only WWII pilots shot down behind enemy lines who managed to escape got a certificate. It was a very, very small club. (*RIP Trevor Anderson)

Banana pancakes & bacon. (And iced latte!) My pancakes are gluten & dairy free, but my neighbour gets so giddy when I tell her I’m bringing some over. The secret is my cinnamon & white pepper in it. Any time cinnamon works in something, so will a bit of white pepper. Game-changer. 🍜🍽️

I mean, I know this is useless to say almost but if Biden were retweeting right now a meme grown out of a violent conspiracy theory movement that says Republicans and Hollywood are running a satanic pedophile cult, he’d be immediately forced out but it’s Trump so media & politicos are all 🤷‍♂️
In the exact same nine day period that Biden and his White House and campaign have been flailing, Trump has offered voters a window into his own mental state and vision for term 2 It’s not great! www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.
Now everyone--The Times and, sorry to say, MSNBC--is noting every missed syllable. The man has a stutter. I don't stutter but I am a mushmouth who speaks too fast and slurs words. I've had to overcome fear of public speaking. I have empathy for Biden. The press has empathy for no one (but Trump).

People are getting confused and thinking this means I think Joe Biden is the ideal candidate or that nobody else would do a better job - not true! I just think that decision was made four years ago and reversing it is a guaranteed path to utter catastrophe
Joe Biden refusing to take advice from people who have been wrong about everything for decades could be seen as an indication his brain is still working

Canada has entered the chat. Our 2015 election was 78 days between when the writ was dropped and Canadians went to the polls. The nation complained that it was an insufferably long election campaign. Usually, it’s done in about 35 days. ottawacitizen.com/news/politic...
The Brits called an election on May 22 and it happened on July 4. Imagine that kind of election cycle. Fellow Americans, fantasize with me about what that kind of political and media environment is like.

The chicken turned out yum. It’s SO worth dry-brining your chickens — even if you just salt it. So much better. I’m just trying to eat a bit healthier tonight so it’s big-ass salad night. Made a light but creamy dressing with Greek yogurt, lemon, herbs, Dijon, grainy Dijon, & buckwheat honey. 🍜🍽️
