My last thought before drifting off for the night: what a month it's been and what a Footy Eclipse. In the end, I really hope Messi's body holds together long enough to face off against Lamine Yamal in the Finalissima before World Cup 2026. It'd be the perfect passing of the torch.

I love that finally, now that the match is over, Fox is focusing on the celebrations on the pitch and Univisión is making up for all the real journalism by just immediately sheeting the audience with ads.

Just an absolute shitshow mess of a tournament and God, I loved it. This might be the best I've watched since Uruguay took it in 2011. You can't love the totality of the Beautiful Game without acknowledging all the ways it can be played. We got AFCON, Euros, and Copa América all in a calendar year.

I never want this to end/this needs to end.

I was fortunate enough to see Di Maria at PSG with Cavani when he still had something in the tank, and then I saw him two years ago at Juve when he had... less in the tank. What a legend, regardless.

It's damn near midnight. You know the humidity in that place feels like being tossed in a swimming pool right now. These men need all the ice baths when this is over.

I need Leandro Paredes to bring this tier of shithousing physicality to his club next season if he's gonna wear De Rossi's number. Not a criticism, more of an observation.
