but Bex, some of that money might have gone to undeserving families instead of to groundbreaking AI visionaries*
*envisioning how they're going to enjoy that money
By “undeserving” here of course we mean “not white” because I can guarantee that you can find 240 families for whom $25k would be life changing AND raise their kid’s grades just by taking the first 240 families off the LASD free&reduced lunch list
GOP: Haha, we're not racist, how could anyone think that. We love to target poor white kids too, from canceling school lunch programs all the way to gutting once-accessible state colleges.
I’ll divide up the totals spent on stupid projects and how even $1k to 5,000 could change so much. It’s like UBI. It all comes down to trusting people for no other reason than the fact they are rich. No one means tests rich people to make sure their tax breaks aren’t being wasted on non-essentials.
It's wild. We know what helps kids and we keep looking for ridiculous, expensive (someone made some money) "solutions" and complain about paying for the basics.
seriously!!! we don't have to reinvent the wheel! we already have so much data on what kids need and what *actually* deserves investment for future research
Students in my classes are always confused. "We know what works. Why don't we do it?" Or why do we keep undoing it.
Folks, sometimes what is good for your community and/or your school does not align with someone else's ability to make money or maintain power.
What infuriates me most is that these shills knew they didn't have anything to sell before they even stuck their hand out.
Stealing out of the pockets of literal children. Ghouls, each and every one of them.
I really liked the book the revenge of analog by David sax, it had a chapter on edtech showing how a lot of attempts at education technology waste money and analog stuff helps more often
AI is for the rich to monopolize. To steal our jobs, and the taxes that should go to our public good. Then they’re going to sell it all back to us cheaper and crappier. Telling us from on high to be thankful for the crumbs we get.
The first impulse is always “um actually it’s more complicated than that” but yeah, 6 mil could hire a lot of counsellors and supporting staff/infrastructure. Tech is such a big market for flimflams and scams it’s crazy how everyone falls for every bridge scam that comes out.
Didn't you get the memo from Corporations? We hate people, in fact we want AI to replace all blue collar workers, because machines don't need salary. We are in a race to see which billionaire can become a trillionaire first. Then the 1% along with AI shoot to the moon, letting people die on Earth.
Tech companies, whether it's standardized testing or smart boards or AI, see public schools are cash cows to milk dry, sucking all this money out of the district and community and no accountability when their products fail to live up to expectations. I hate it so much.
Does money simply vanish when techbro grifters get a hold of it or do they still have ankles by which they can be held up and shaken until all the money falls back out of their pockets?
Or other such legal remedies
