would like to see how this compares to other systems that try to do such a thing. @cryptix.pizza have you looked into this?

Strongly agreed with this thread. Fascinating to me that fedi requires a certain decoupling of the server model to grow, while atproto probably needs to move towards a server/cluster-model to a certain extend to grow further
Hot (naive?) takes about labelers: * They're main problem is being vulnerable to self-fulfilling prophecy. "They can't work" becomes true if enough believe it. * Non-trivial moderation stances/cultures will succeed in a form closer to fedi-style instances, comprising custom AppViews &/or PDSs 1/

It’s been a month since the last Bridgy Fed status update, so it’s time for a new one! I’ve spent a lot of time over the last month on user-visible improvements and bug fixes, notably more complex post types and links, as well as underlying infrastructure. Click through for details.

Feel like there is an earnestness axis to be made, where Mastodon's defining culture is at one extreme of "missing the joke and making it everyone's problem" and Bluesky's is at the other extreme of "communicating entirely in irony and inscrutable references"

With a slightly revamped work page - jacky.wtf/work and a more networked LinkedIn - www.linkedin.com/in/jacky-alc..., surely someone can see the value of adding a software engineer to their team? If not, let's talk and let's see if I can convince ya :) cal.com/jackyalcine/...

I'm over 30 and I don't think this is true. My first internet friends were on AIM and Neopets and ICQ and 43 Things and those are all walled gardens
If you're over the age of 30, your first internet friends were outside walled gardens, they didn't really exist yet. You found them, and then found them in half a dozen different places none of which were the really *important* thing. The important thing was they were there.

Working with the Threads API reminds me of how frustrating it was to work with Facebook’s main app API years ago, and any silo API that requires manual approval like the App Store. The bureaucracy is at odds with Meta’s claim of supporting the open web and fediverse.

Thinking about the concept of "nationalism" and how there is a "good nationalism" or "acceptable nationalism" in certain areas. Things like the anarchist excitement for Rojava and the EZLN or "NYC vs Berlin being the only place to live" I would love to read something about this phenomenon.

@snarfed.org added a feature to Bridgy that if a bridged Fedi post is >300 chars long and is truncated, it adds the original body as a field in the record. In Skythread I now show that full text inline. @skeetsapp.com @deck.blue @skeetdeck.bsky.social maybe you can consider doing that too? #atdev 🙂
ATProto: when post or profile bio text is truncated, store full text in custom field in record · Issue #1092 · snarfed/bridgy-fedgithub.com ...or maybe always do this, regardless of whether it's truncated? This would help with eg #986 (comment)

for me, the goalpost is that running a full-network appview should be accessible to: Internet Archive Chaos Computer Club RiseUp (maybe) Wikimedia Foundation US/EU university labs 5 person startup without breaking much of a sweat (aka, existing ops teams), even with network growth over time
