I'm a very high risk person of not surviving in this society. If I don't take psychiatric meds, I'll be homeless in a heartbeat, & I work hard to keep from being homeless still. Whites have no clue, but being Black in America is so high risk. You can get shot to death by a cop minding your business.

We're very saddened to hear about the passing of Jane McAlevey, a true legend in labor organizing. May her memory be a blessing. Her lessons certainly are.
Avatar
Today we lost an absolute giant in labor organizing and activism. An immense hole will be left by her passing. Rest in power, Jane.

Gonna check out this new Inside Out movie now I guess

Should we bring back bullying?!?

bill gates is one of my favorite examples. white billionaire uses the continent as a testing ground, creating charity projects to "help" Africans. then he sells what he learns and then uses that money to undermine policy that'd help native Africans long term

Motives matter a lot. I work with philanthocapitalism professionally grant writing to support formerly unhoused women. Its motives are profit driven, not actually altruistic. It’s essentially about megawealthy people getting tax write offs.
honestly I think motives matter MORE when doing charity. philanthrocapitalism only reinforces inequality.

I'll tell y'all this about the Klan. The only folks shocked the Klan exists & does shit are white liberals. The Klan & its supporters are well aware they have never stopped existing. Also all Black southerners know that they are deep in politics & never stopped terror. @grrlysquirrel.bsky.social

if the "charity" is only done to amass more wealth and power, then we absolutely should care about that.

The hawk tuah that Steven Levy gives Mark Zuckerberg in the book, Facebook: An Inside Story for "gracing Africa with his presence" is why I find it hard to read books by white men nowadays.

there are no mappable lessons from the french election to the u.s. because the left does not have comparable institutional political power/representation in government. our abysmal party selection and the way campaign finance works are as ever part of the problem

UK and France have both defeated their right wing parties in elections this year. The US needs to get its shit together.

If you're worried about brevity in your writing, don't. It took Project 2025 nine hundred pages to say fourteen words.

LinkedIn doesn't know me. I talked nonstop for 40 minutes because I was asked if Tony Stark was a clone (spoiler: yes)

There's a lot of things I'm not going to do in order to go out & meet people that someone who doesn't care about catching COVID might do. I'm probably not going to be at that crowded indoor gathering except on a rare occasion as the only masked person feeling panicked I'm exposed the whole time.
People who don't try to be as safe from the pandemic as me don't understand some of my challenges to getting out of social isolation. I'm not willing to be a weekly in person church goer right now because that seems high risk, unmasked people singing & shouting & sharing drinking vessels.

I do not see flawed Christians as not Christian. I consider all who think of Christ as their spiritual leader to be Christians, & people who were raised that way culturally unless they chose to abandon the identity. Christofascists are Christian. So was Mother Theresa. Christians aren't perfect.
Christians aren’t perfect human beings, but still good & well-meaning if there is compassion for others and a sense of reconciliation for wrong-doings. Our stories of Jesus Christ didn’t speak of Him wearing a mask during a pandemic, but He showed compassion to the sick and marginalized.

More specifically: my dad imparted Intergenerational knowledge about Blackness, Black identity and what it means to be a Black men. He was a polisci professor who taught them how the govt has traditionally screwed our ppl over. AI can't do that, and that's why it's being pushed in that space now.
Avatar
Further, at an HBCU, Black students get an education from their Black professors in ways that exceed class syllabus. My dad taught at Morehouse and I literally watched him help Black men become full human beings — an AI can't do that.
Avatar
And given Morehouse's stature as an HBCU, if they can normalize this AI shit there, they can normalize it at all HBCUs. This is very specifically an antiblack educational policy and has to be addressed as such.
Avatar
HBCUs for all their flaws are still places that allow more Black folks to get higher education & degrees than we would if they didn't exist. This isn't just about rich ppl, this is about the continuing attempts at recreating "separate yet equal" educational systems,
Avatar
Yeah basically this. This is yet another attempt at chipping away at the value and legitimacy of HBCUs, which is a fight that has been going on for deacdes & that usually takes place in state & federal budget meetings and accreditation bodies.
Avatar
Yeah given the racial labor dynamics of this occuring at at Historically Black College and University (HBCU) it's real weird to simplify this to just some raceless rich people, my guy.
lol it’s going to be so stupid in ten years when exclusive schools for rich people brag that they use real human teachers
