Hey! Remember Republicans saying "Obamacare will make death panels to kill your grandma!"? Then you should probably go check out chapter 14 of the Project 2025 manifesto. Because every Conservative/Republican accusation is a confession.

I'm not kidding. Chapter 14 of Project 2025 (see: "Agenda 47") is the part of their plan where they'd cut back medical services to the point where every poor sick & disabled person will, quite simply, not be able to afford to stay alive. This could be your grandmother, your uncle, your cousin. You.

Because, again: Disability is the only minority anyone can join at any time, & which everyone will join, if they're lucky enough to live that long. A disease, a quirk of genetics, a bus, a bad fall from a curb. Anything. And the only thing we have that could consistently make this fact survivable…

…is a society which tries to keep us all supported. And that is precisely what Republicans and conservatives are trying to destroy. So Do Not Let Them.

Muting this thread now. Stop fighting in my fucking mentions.

And people ALREADY have next to zero support.

It already feels like democide, and it will absolutely become that, if tfg is elected.

I know I’m missing nuance, but with current public health priorities the absolute denial and neglect of diseases that mostly afflict women, BIPOC, and children, it already feels like the death panels are here. White boomer lives, primarily men, get at least 10X in public health dollars.
Avatar
Medicare is spending millions per boomer on end of life care. Meanwhile, poor neighborhoods continue to suffer poor air quality that skyrocket the asthma rates, no one is funding clean air for schools, and the astronomical cost of the long tail of Long Covid is just straight up delayed and denied.
Avatar
Yes, and all of this will get significantly, immediately, and near-intractably worse if these people get back into power.

Some (but not all*) of the major concerns to Disabled people can be seen at Defeat Project 2025. The reality is that Disabled people are a hugely diverse group, so issues that aren't specifically considered about Disability will still affect at least some of us.
Disability Rights | Defeat Project 2025!defeatproject2025.org Disabled Americans already face an uphill battle when it comes to securing basic human rights like shelter and access to life-saving care. Project 2025 aims to further disenfranchise and otherwise kil...

Wish “ppl in power” and in opposition to Trump realized that you don’t fight this with return to status quo -woefully insufficient- you fight this with **national health care** We need to take a page from the French and actually propose something better than the present. That’s how u BEAT FASCISTS.

Fwiw, the death panel thing was projection even contemporaneously. Republicans were hooting about death panels even as insurers rescinded cancer coverage over prior acne drug use. They either lacked the knowledge to discuss the issue in good faith, or they knew they were lying. No third option.
Avatar
Yes, those death panels have always existed.
Avatar
But, also yes, conservatives want to codify them more explicitly in the way they wanted to accuse progressives of planning.

Hi. I’m a disabled boomer woman who was homeless from 2014- 2023 & used to have 100% coverage because I lived on about 1000 a month and now I am 68 & have to pay for dental, mental, vision & meds. And RENT. And UTILITIES. On about $1000 a month. And NOT ALLOWED TO EARN OR HAVE MONEY. Bless yore 🖤

Getting COVID multiple times a year for the rest of their life is going to get people up close and personal with this piece of insight, far sooner than they think.

And quirks of genetics aren’t always known until, well, you find out that you have a genetic quirk in your family. I was absolutely stunned to find out that my grandfather and five generations before him had Ankylosing Spondylitis (“rheumatism” in the olden days).
Avatar
Accidentally discovered a genetic quirk 2 weeks ago (I'm 40) and now the rest of my family's getting tests so they can know how likely they are to have a stroke in the next 10 years.

Thanks. I’m just glad we stumbled upon it before I had the first stroke. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Need this as a poster to plaster over every available surface.

I just love how the world we live in now is slowly killing me (years to get disability benefits, hospitals infecting me with COVID by denying me isolation bc I'm immunocompromised) etc. And then these assholes just want to do it quickly without pretense. AND NO ONE'S STOPPING THEM.

For the record, both Red & Blue versions of this country want me dead and are actively working toward that goal, although the Red version has people cheering for my death while the Blue version has people making excuses for why I'm an aceptable loss. These should not be the only "viable" options.

It was already my brother, who died, due to lack of insurance, before ACA took full effect.
I love the "welfare cliff" line. Which was created by Republican states refusing to accept medicaid expansion under the ACA.
"The average length of Same Sex marriage is half that of heterosexual marriages". Yes, that happens when the oldest same sex marriages in the country are barely 20 years old.
And there's the bit that allows states to spend child welfare funding on marriage counseling. Oklahoma is currently doing this. The beneficiaries are mostly young professionals who would not qualify for standard TANF benefits.
Yes, the reason black families are disproportionately single mother is totally a lack of messaging, not the result of massive overincarceration of black men.
And there's teaching the rhythm method in place of actual birth control. And removing the only birth control method that also controls STIs.
Oh, and there's rural telehealth for your car accident, instead of an air ambulance. So the doctor can watch you bleed out?
Avatar
Ah, a point of order - the beneficiaries are mostly *religious counselors,* some of whom are trained/licensed, many of who are not thanks to refusing to regulate anything with the word "religious" on it. B/c that's who the money goes to largely, even though credentialed secular MFTs are RIGHT THERE.
Fair enough. Mostly relevant that the money is in no way temporarily assisting needy families.

Like, it's the private healthcare hell we have but absolutely worse. They only really care about squeezing as much money as they can, and if it kills, what they call, "undesirables", then that's just a bonus to them.

"Useless eaters." Funny how they keep coming around to actual Nazi positions time and again.

Not to mention how many people now love that they have insurance via the ACA. My fave example was Kentucky's "Kynect" program that got tons of working-class folks on healthcare. They all love it, but when asked about "Obamacare" they recoiled in disgust, "NEVER!" #BrandingMatters
Truth be told! Project 2025 trump & Republicans so desperately want to implement 🤬will definitely target communities already suffering which is their plan….it favors the rich and white supremacy!
