tbh our friends and partners and spouses and relatives who don’t want to talk about this are right, it’s all of us who are wrong
Anecdotally *a lot* of people are tuning out of the political news right now. My normally politically engaged wife and mother both just don't want to hear any of it at the moment. We, the politically mainlining hedge pundit class of BlueSky are busy chasing every new tennis ball, but we're weirdos

Obviously lots of institutional and organizational psychodrama led up to this moment but it's also just sort of boiled down now to the fact that it WOULD be the biggest news around if Biden DID step aside so the Times is in a fugue state of treating not having the story as if they did have the story
Nothing has changed the narrative

So @adamgurri.liberalcurrents.com tweeted my piece on Trump’s mass deportation plan, adding that he doubts most people understand how cruel and abusive it would be to carry out. It went viral, which brought hundreds of blue check responses. The gist: They know. And that’s why they love it.

I will never forget the interview, shortly after Ozy Media Inc. was formed, where Carlos Watson said he named it after the poem, because "the lesson you take from [Ozymandias] is that you have to dream big." So that's why liberal arts education is important.

I've seen a lot of one-offs of people holding these signs, but what is truly chilling is a sea of these being held up by delegates.
In case you missed it this was one of the official signs handed out by the RNC for delegates to wave. Not a joke, not a.i.

We ran a whole campaign at EFF to get Venmo to even make it possible for users to hide their social networks. The fact that JD Vance couldn't be bothered to turn that option on is a lesson in the tyranny of default settings. www.wired.com/story/jd-van...
J.D. Vance Left His Venmo Public. Here’s What It Showswww.wired.com The Republican VP nominee's Venmo network reveals connections ranging from the architects of Project 2025 to enemies of Donald Trump—and the populist's close ties to the very elites he rails against.

Post-debate polling hasn't been great for Biden but it hasn't been awful. Down-ballot Dems outperform him. So I don't get, "Democrats fully expect polls after the Republican National Convention to show a possible blowout that could bring down Democrats in Congress." www.axios.com/2024/07/18/p...

In my book, this is worse than secretly taking lavish gifts: Clarence Thomas cut off the boy he was "raising as a son" after the kid failed a drug test in high school. He's in jail now, but doesn't think the Thomases even know. "I just wish they’d at least communicate with me," he says.
Clarence Thomas’s “Son” Breaks Silence From Jailnewrepublic.com Mark Martin, the man raised by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas as a “son,” is speaking out on the sad truth of their relationship.

I would love to see the formal complaints that lead to this decision.
"Denmark’s food agency has recalled South Korean instant ramen produced by a brand popular in the west, warning noodle lovers that they were so hot they might cause “acute poisoning”." 😂 If you, like me were wondering if they're also recalling the 2X the answer is yes.

Farmers in Bastrup, TX were hopeful when Elon Musk bought land nearby, but now he’s turning the area into “an environmentally hazardous industrial park.” Authorities won’t do anything because they’re understaffed and “intimidated by their powerful new neighbor.”
Their Dream Was to Build an Organic Farm. Then Elon Musk Moved Into the Neighborhood.www.texasmonthly.com The Tesla CEO has brought jobs to Bastrop, Texas. Along the way, some locals say, the Boring Company, SpaceX, and suppliers have upended a way of life.

Keep in mind: There’s a ballot measure in Arizona this fall, put there by the GOP, that’d pretty much kill popular initiatives there. Direct retaliation for progressive measures on minimum wage, gerrymandering, abortion, campaign finance. boltsmag.org/arizona-ball...

People go on about the bully pulpit but it’s extensively documented that when the president weighs in on a topic, the immediate effect is to polarize opinion about it along partisan lines. One of those results that, once you hear it, is blindingly obvious.
[norman rockwell guy] i think it’s bad, actually, that so many people think the president of the united states should step in and publicly arbitrate every regional dispute in the country and i can promise that you absolutely will not like it if they do
