US Leaders Dodge Questions About Israel’s Influence Campaignwww.wired.com Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has joined US intelligence officials in ignoring repeated inquiries about Israel’s “malign” efforts to covertly influence US voters.

The House Democratic leader was a top target of the Israeli campaign. His staff are ducking questions about whether he received notification from the US intelligence community, a standard practice. Jeffries has supported military aid for Israel & has invited Netanyahu to speak before Congress.

House Intelligence Committee leaders are similarly ignoring all inquires—placed repeatedly with multiple senior staff members over the past week—Mark Warner, head of Senate Intelligence, tells WIRED he plans to request an IC briefing.

It's difficult to write a news story about getting no answers, but there's a range of possible scenarios here and none of them are good. Did US intelligence fail to detect this effort? Did it fail to notify Congress? Or did lawmakers keep this knowledge under wraps while voting on military aid?

It also seems to have become something of a secondary concern in this whole affair that Israel targeted largely Black voters by impersonating them. One of the identities stolen was that of a 21 year old Broadway actor who tragically died in 2015. Is the US holding anyone accountable?

Jeffries has taken $1,498,105 from AIPAC. You know he is going to dodge. He is working for a foreign government not the United States of America and her citizens.

"Said a spokesperson for the National Security Council: “We take all allegations of foreign malign influence seriously.”" This was, in their opinion, a benign influence, so they won't take it seriously.

Does "no response" here mean "we are deferring to State about how to respond to this diplomatic issue, and they haven't figured it out yet"?

No. It means we've reached out with questions to multiple senior staff members in each office multiple times over the past six days and received zero response.

Yeah, I concur. Not at this stage. There's no good reason for Jeffries in particular not to come out say whether he was notified or not. And if not, the question is then whether the IC withheld it or was similarly unaware. And if this stuff is slipping through in an election year, that's a big deal.
