I love how Meta pays thousands of data scientists $400K each a year to build systems that see me join a Facebook group called Chicago Lost and Found Pets and confidently intuit that I want my feed to be filled with lost and found pet posts from similar groups in places I don't live

Didn't even notice the OG was 10 mo old and got very confused tracking the thread when I clicked on it.

I didn't realize until recently that my Athletic subscription is a NY Times subscription as well.

With UK Labour making some very negative noise about trans rights shortly after taking power, I do think there is some legit genuine concern about people that otherwise would likely be allies that do read major newspapers can see harmful things advocated for and support harmful policies.

Useful thing I learned was that my 1st Criticism may be the 10000th for a public figure. Which also meant no space for sarcasm or jokes because they might not know me well enough.

Weird that they don't mention that the reason why it's taking so long to restore power is that the local power barons are arguing pay rates with the thousands of linesmen they brought in from all over to get things working again.
The fourth largest city in America is still in crisis under a deadly heatwave & the power company can't get hundreds of thousands of households back online, but you'd barely know it from our national news.

We will never be rich (financially) because long before we do we will be helping out others. So at least very rich in all the other ways? 😄

Lauren Boebert is a high school dropout. I don't say this to shame people who don't finish their education. But it helps underscore how all the chitter chatter about "DEI" has nothing to do with merit. It's just a racial slur. www.salon.com/2024/07/05/b...
Boebert's "DEI hire" remark towards Karine Jean-Pierre causes blowbackwww.salon.com The Colorado rep., who obtained a GED in 2020, called the Columbia grad and first Black press secretary a DEI hire.

THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right: "Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."

Bolts is akin to Last Week Tonight: a much deeper dive on important issues than you're likely to get most anywhere else. Like, they have a guide to judicial elections. This is important stuff that gets skipped over by way too many outlets.
For folks who've appreciated my coverage of the French elections... @bolts.bsky.social is quite different—but we cover US politics with such attention to detail. So give us a follow if you've enjoyed this, and care about the US. And our newsletter is free! boltsmag.org/newsletter

The perception of an inevitable fascist victory in Europe is largely just the wishcasting of mainstream media publications saying that fascist victory is inevitable. See how the BBC spins National Rally's loss.

These mistakes originalist justices are making aren’t about disputed interpretations of history, with evidence on both sides. They’re pulling quotes out of context to attribute ideas to founding figures that those figures adamantly opposed. (via @andycraig.bsky.social) reason.com/volokh/2024/...
