the amount of folx who think that the solution to bias in gen AI/big techs lack of quality data is to mobilise the public to crowdsource quality, labelled training data is astounding. often with no acknowledgement or mention of how this is extractive labour, all for the benefit of tech monopolies

The year is 2024 and people who run actual schools still think humans learn best through magical transfer of knowledge from mouth hole to ear hole

So a thing about AI is that, not understanding the material itself, it cannot understand what the gap is in someone else’s understanding. Students already have access to materials that will repeat important points over and over. They don’t need more.

I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.

Now everyone--The Times and, sorry to say, MSNBC--is noting every missed syllable. The man has a stutter. I don't stutter but I am a mushmouth who speaks too fast and slurs words. I've had to overcome fear of public speaking. I have empathy for Biden. The press has empathy for no one (but Trump).
